I've seen some guys that have used them with mixed results. More often than not though it ends up looking a little rough. Additionally, don't forget that font size has to be at least 1/16" and engraved to a depth of .003", its doubtful a trophy shop would be able to ensure this depth uniformly. Though, I don't know that I've ever seen where the ATF balked at someone's engraving depth that wasn't readily apparent. The reason that places like Ident and TAM's son work at are recommended so regularly is because they do this work routinely, and are aware of the intricacies of it, whereas a trophy shop probably doesn't know the regulations off-hand. To me, it's worth the $50-60 to have it done with someone who knows what they're doing, especially given that I've already dropped $200 on a stamp.
