They are reducing the price on some items. All firearms are being sent to other stores. They now have a small sign saying they will be closing Jan. 31st

I stopped by today, everything is on sale...including guns. The employees said that when they were told about the store closing, guns were excluded from the sale, but have been ringing up at 10% off! I do think that all of the guns left (if there are any) are shipped to other stores next week.

Happy shopping!

I heard on the radio this morning that the store in Round Rock is having an 'Annual Clearance' sale on Jan 1st. I wonder if their gun inventory will be shipped by then.
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

I went up there today and most guns and ammo was 10% off. Knives and flashlights were 30-50% off, footwear 30% off, etc. Everything in the store was on sale, but the guys in the gun department stated that guns were getting pulled out of the store on January 1st to get distributed to other locations.

I left today with a Remington 870 Express Super Mag and a Kershaw Amphibian.

I've purchased two handguns at the Lewisville location, but went to buy a small S&W 642 right after Christmas. It had been on sale for some time. I called on 12/26/07 and spoke to someone at the gun counter to confirm the sale price. I went that night, filled out the paperwork (not yet CHL), and went to pay out. It rang up at the higher, non-discounted price. They told me the sale ended on 12/24/07, and would not honor the price mistakenly told to me on the phone that morning. They confirmed with the department manager. I told them I wouldn't pay that amount. No apology for the mixup, just "that's the price, do you still want it?" I left and went straight over to Academy and purchased the same revolver for the same non-discounted price just on principle.

I do hate to see them close the store, and like I said before, have purchased guns from them before. Having said that, this last experience left a bad last impression.

I took advantage of the store closing sale today. I bought some new Danner boots, and some ammo. It's a shame to see them close...

I saw over at http://www.texashuntingforum.com where a lot of folks there are disappointed as well. A few were contacting the corportate types, hoping to get the decision reversed. I suspect the best we can hope for is maybe re-opening later at another location.

camjr - Sorry to hear they would not honor the price. I had bought a "precision air rifle" there a few years ago for $160 or so. It would not group for squat with any type of .177 pellet and I returned it. The gal at customer service called the manager of the hunting dept. He took one look at targets I'd taken in too and authorized a no-quibble 100% refund. As you may have experienced, there are a couple of good dudes too in handguns over at Academy - just not nearly the selection ...
