Now here's a piece of irony: In Texas, judges have always been allowed to carry and are exempt from 46.02 and 46.03. That means they can carry in court, and many do. Arguably 30.06 also does not apply to them. I don't know about South Carolina, which is where this incident occurred.

Re: Ladies: gun carried in purse dangerous to children
Jim, there is an old debate over whether or not judges were allowed to carry before. Some claimed that they were because the law named them as conservators of the peace. I have always said the exception did not apply because they were not "peace officers" as defined in CCP 2.12.
As of right now, most magistrates can carry only if they also have a CHL. But, they have more privileges than the average CHL. You are correct that both 46.02 and 46.03 do not apply to a judge with a CHL.
Which raises the interesting question of whether or not 30.06 does apply to them or not. Since the exception requires them to have a CHL, I would think the law does apply. But, somehow, I do not see many judges getting arrested for violating it either.

Like CompVest said, purse carry can be done well, but it requires a bit more responsibility.
Personally, I don't like having to keep my purse attached to me at all moments; therefore, I only use this method when it is impossible to hide it on my body.
Ladies have a much more difficult time hiding it on the body than do men. I can't help get a bit jealous at how easily Mars can hide a 1911 OWB.
