Call before you leave the house and ask them to hold it for two hours. If they won't agree to that, don't go, unless you're planning on gambling or you have another reason to make the trip (IMHO).Embalmo wrote:Yea, but what if someone buys the last of the gun he wants jusssst before he got there?chabouk wrote:If that's your geography - is it worth a little road trip to pick up a good value?

If you call them they should hold it for you for at least a couple hours...they did that for me 2 weeks ago for a 12ga that was on sale.Embalmo wrote:Yea, but what if someone buys the last of the gun he wants jusssst before he got there?chabouk wrote:If that's your geography - is it worth a little road trip to pick up a good value?

Have PT140 Pro, drops factory mags as well as two seperate aftermarket vendors. Can get off between 1 & 3 shots, firing right handed various grip styles. Thank goodness I have a number of backup choices for carry. Need to send it in if they fix it and it runs clean for 3-400 rounds will probably keep it but if it has to go back a second time, I will trade it off for something more reliable. Would prefer to see it wind up as a range gun for rental than someones got to go bang primary carry at that point.
I realize they all can have problems but this family appears to have more than it's share. Guess I'll start shopping for another winter 40 carry piece just glad I had not ordered a quality holster for it yet. My brother has a nine & 45 he likes the 45 no problems with either one

Hi-If you're asking about single action only pistols, I'm a bigger fan of single action/double action pistols. With that configuration, you draw, and your first pull is double action, but when the slide goes back, it cocks it, so every subsequent pull is single action. Or, if you have the time, you can draw, pull the hammer back and have every pull single action. I carry mine loaded, chambered, safety off, uncocked.budroux2w wrote:Man that's tempting. Thank you for the responce. I was asking more for semi-auto, there are a lot of acronyms used on this site that I'm still trying to pick up on lol. I've heard mixed reviews on the Taurus brand, I'm thinking that I might just save up a bit more and get something with more stable reviews if I'm going to be depending on it.Embalmo wrote:Hi-If you're asking about single action only pistols, I'm a bigger fan of single action/double action pistols. I currently CC a 9mm hi-point and love it, but wouldnt mind "accessorizing"
So, in your opinion, if someone was a lefty, it wouldnt cause the problem you experienced? I am a lefty and for the price, it might make sense to listen to "you bought ANOTHER gun" from the better half and spending time in the doghouse.have PT140 Pro, drops factory mags as well as two seperate aftermarket vendors. Can get off between 1 & 3 shots, firing right handed various grip styles.

I have owned several of the PT series. 2 PT-111 MilPRo's and a PT-145 MilPro. Never had a problem with any of them. They were my daily carry. I would still carry the PT-145 if I had not traded it in order to help fund my 1911 addiction.

See...that's the way I feel about my PT-111 too. I have never had one iota of trouble out of it. I can't recall having any malfunctions and it will eat just about any ammo I put into it. But hubby's PT-140 had the mag dropping problem. And it wasn't the mag release and it wasn't his grip because it did it to me as well. It's a known problem from what we've read on the Taurus forums. But I trust my life every day to my PT-111.tboesche wrote:I have owned several of the PT series. 2 PT-111 MilPRo's and a PT-145 MilPro. Never had a problem with any of them. They were my daily carry. BE FOREWARNED!!!Out of nowhere, the clerk tells me that on Black Friday (the day after
Turkey Day) Academy is going to have a 5 hour only sale on the
Taurus PT140, for only $199.99! Wow, this gun goes for $329.99 IIRC.
http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/prod" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... s_id/32438
The identical or similar gun at Bud's is ~ $350.00. This link has a nice clear picture of the weapon.
Academy ran the PT-111 on the Black Friday sale last year. At a time when the PT-111 Millenium had evolved into the third generation PRO versions, the Academy pistol was not the PRO version and was apparently cobbled together for Academy from earlier generation parts.
It was discussed in this thread:

Also discussed in the Taurus Armed forum here:

Study the PT-140 in advance so you can try to identify the version, etc. actually being sold when you see it. You will have no time then to make a choice.
At the Pasadena store I was at, if you weren't in line at 5am, you were out of luck for some items. I picked up the Heritage Rough Rider for $99 and the PT-111 for $229. I sold the never fired PT-111 to someone who knew it wasn't the latest version.

Disregard my previous post.
The Black Friday ad is posted here http://www.blackfriday.info/sales/acade ... ay-ad.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .
The Taurus that will be on sale (page 1, near bottom) is the PT101, .40 S&W, 16+1, with accessory rail for $299, reg $379. This is the Beretta 92 lookalike.

I just got back from Academy. The tarus was 299.00 not 199.00. This was a Houston Academy. I was going to buy a couple at 199 but not at 299.
I thought the gun was a bit more compact. Not much smaller than my sigma .40
