Do I have to disclose to LEOs?

I have heard too many stories about capricious disarming and incompetent gun handling by the gendarmerie.

Both stories are extremely rare.

Agree. Already armed.

Disagree: needing a gun is rare. Saying that is like saying Needing a door lock is rare. They are only USED if someone tries to break in. Need one every day. AAAAaaaaaaaaa, need SEVERAL every day.
Need them for:
carry in case you need it NOW for a personal defense incident,
piece of mind if not needed at this verry moment,
for future defense against tyrany,
This list can go on & On & ON.
The need for firearms close, handy, readily accessable is even more important than a door lock. If the door lock is breached your arms are your last line of defense.

When seconds count Law Enforcement is only 15 minutes away.
They will always get there in plenty of time to draw a chalk line around a body. Often times a firearm is the only tool that assures that chalk line is not around YOUR body.

I think maybe twice I've been asked for ID and showed both cards. It was NBD. These were not traffic stops. One was reporting a burglary and the other was a false alarm at my house.

Anything like saying, "I have a gun," or showing it to them is just nuts.

BTW, a couple of weeks ago I heard a radio interview with a retired detective who was a technical adviser to some CSI-type TV show. He said in his experience that half the time they could get a suspect to talk himself into handcuffs without asking any questions that would invoke Miranda.

People just seem to have an urge to talk themselves into trouble.

See,,,,you will just end up losing an hour and then have to meet the cop off duty to let him shoot it and then he will let you turn on the siren.

I never thought about this scenario. It could turn into a great social event. Maybe I should change my opinion on disclosures to LEOs.

If the officer asks for ID, I hand over my DL and CHL, whether or not I'm armed at the moment (even though it's not required if I'm not armed, as mentioned, it may make things smoother.) I offer no information on whether or not I'm armed unless asked. I did recently have one DPS officer hand back my CHL and never even asked if I was carrying.
I do not go around handing my DL and/or CHL to every LEO I encounter. If they ask, I'll show it.
I don't feel like I'm withholding information because I just don't see it as relevant information. If asked, I'll gladly tell them anything they want to know about if and how I am armed. (And yeah, I've had it turned into a gun discussion a couple of times. "Oh, nice. How do you like it? blah blah blah")

. . . After they were done searching, the K9 officer asked if I was armed and I said yes. He "read me the riot act" about not notifying him and showing my CHL to him. . . . I was polite and he was too... just telling me I didn't follow the law and that I am required to let him know I have a CHL. He reiterated that it was for his safety. I again said that I was not carrying under the authority of my CHL but even if I was, the statute only requires notification when an officer asks for identification. I was never asked. He again said it was for his safety and that in the future always show my CHL. . . .

Those are the guys that worry me. Maybe we should wear our CHL badge when calling them.

That's exactly what the given DPS link stated, with SUGGESTIONS on how to behave when stopped by DPS and others. I also suspect that much how it goes down will have a lot to do with how the particular LEO's day is going.

In case the law got lost in the opinions, you only have to if you're armed and they ask for ID.
