From the article
The 221 murder cases (some with more than one victim) reviewed by the Chronicle represent less than 1 percent of those charged from 2015 to 2020 with a new crime while out on bond for any offense. The cases represent about 7 percent of the total homicides in Harris County during the Chronicle’s review period.
We have gone from "if it saves just one life" in the arguments for gun control to this. The 221 people likely won't be dead if the bond rules hadn't been changed.

I wish that I could find the documentary video about Sing Sing prison in Ossining,NY. from several decades ago. It traced the history of the prison and the huge shifts in the management of it between those who viewed prisons as places of severe punishment and those who expected them to be institutions which reformed criminals to reintegrate them into society. The truth is probably someplace between. Not everyone who gets caught up in the criminal justice system is a career criminal and the sooner that they are separated from society, the less crime that there will be. But it is clear that some lack any moral base from which to conduct their lives, either due to bad parents or to some type of mental illness. Allowing them to roam about freely is to invite them to create more victims. Achieving the identification of those would can change and those who never will is the reason to have multiple voices in the discussion. Clearly, there are those who are falsely convicted and those numbers will rise if we continue to allow politics to have its current role in our justice system. Harris seems to be one of the worst places in Texas for over-politicizing everything.

Couple fired upon for no reason at a bar in Houston’s Downtown Aquarium. The man died, woman is wounded. This is Shark Tanks’s Tillman Fertitia’s development popular with families and tourists. The shooter then took his own life. Social media posts the couple made earlier show the man near them at the bar. The man had previously been turned in by his sister to the police ( see something say something) He was arrested in a bar, high on meth with a gun. He was out on multiple bonds when this happened. Was also supposed to have a mental evaluation.

Let’s pass more laws.
