San Antonio Rodeo and Stock Show 2022

Post by srothstein »

I went to the SA Stock show today, just to walk the grounds and see some of the exhibits, not to see the rodeo itself. It is posted 30.05, 30.06, and 30.07. I know the 30.06 and 30.07 are not legally enforceable since the grounds are owned by the county, but there is no government property exemption/defense in 30.05 that I am aware of. I do not think 30.05 is enforceable if you have a CHL, but I would not want to be a test case, so I left my weapon in the car.

And I was kind of glad I did because this year they were scanning every one who entered. I will say it is not too high a quality scan since it detected my phone in my shirt pocket but not the two magazines of 10mm on my hip.

Also, this year they had something else new (well, new to me) that I found interesting. They are pushing people to buy the tickets on-line and if you do, there is a notice that the ticket constitutes an agreement that you will not bring any weapons, including knives over three inches, on the grounds. I thought that was smart since then they can enforce it by at least kicking you out for a contractual violation.

If you are planning on going, I was very disappointed in this year's stock show. Only about half the exhibits from previous years that I had been there. Parking now has varied prices depending which lot you are in (from 10 for the remote shuttle lot to 25 for the lot by the front gate). Grounds admission was $12 normally, but today was $2 day so my wife was only charged that for admission. And I got in free since Jon Wayne Plumbing paid for all military and veterans to get in free. Only needed to show my driver's license with the veteran stamp on it.
