A 1911 questions

Post by calvinbr »

To all,

I had a lonely 1911 come home with me last night. I have never been with one before. I do not know much about her other than she is NEW, a 45!!!!! :woohoo  It is a 5" 1911A1 GI Mil- Spec Parkerized. It is made by Armscor Precision, Inc. I wanted to get a holster for it, but when I look for one they do not have the model type. Will my gun and a Kimber 5" fit in the same holster? Also will any mag work in all 1911's My way of thinking is the more information I have from you the more I learn!!!!!

 :chldancing

Depends on the holster type, but they are about the same frame. If it is a nylon or leather holster and not form fitted (i.e. a Fobus tactical type) it will for sure. The Fobus KM3 or C21 seeries of tactical holsters should also fit both.

Generally any holster designed for a full government model 1911 will fit a Mil Spec. My advice is something from Comp-Tac (I like and am wearing a C.T.A.C.)

Again Generally any Magazine made for the full size 1911 will fit. There a re many good manufactorers. I use ONLY Wilson Combat 47Ds.

1911s are great companions but require a lot of attention and love. In addition to daily handling, rub downs and generous amounts of CLP, they do well with frequent excersize. Some are finicky eaters but with the right professional help (I suggest http://www.operatorsedge.com) this tendancy can be overcome.

NOW you NEED to start coming to IDPA......

Armscor/Rock Island 1911s are decent "beginner" 1911s. My first 1911 was and is a Rock Island, essentially the same thing as your gun.

It will fit pretty much any full-size 1911 holster. Some might require a bit more "coercion" to make them fit (new leather holsters, for example), but they'll fit. A holster that fits a Kimber 5" will also fit an Armscor 5". You may find the holster you want marked "Full-Size 1911" or "Government 1911."

All full-size 1911 magazines will fit; however, some might not work all that well. I consider the magazine to be the "weakest part" of the 1911. Bent or damaged feed lips, worn springs, and faulty followers can all cause a malfunction. That "finicky-ness" that 1911s are known for is due in large part to the magazines. A beat-up old GI magazine stands a good probability of causing your gun to jam, while a brand-new Wilson will almost certainly feed flawlessly. I've been fortunate in that my guns will feed from every magazine I own, whether it's Wilson, Mec-Gar, Colt, Springfield, or bargain-bin junk magazines; your mileage may vary.

My Rock Island 1911 feeds just about everything, except CCI Blazer Brass for some odd reason.

Thane,

What type of loads do or did you shoot. The manual said to only shoot factory 230 gr FMJ Brass cased ammo.
