carry to a ballroom

Hey everyone. I am going to a family wedding this saturday at a local salon/ballroom but I've been to some weddings where there is a security guard on the front door with a metal detector, is it legal for me to carry there,and if it is what should I tell the security guard if there is no 30.06 sign

I'm not always popular for saying this, since some of us like to get into the exorcise ones rights issues, but the best way to avoid problems with private property situations, is to call in advance and ask.
