Looks like NYC want's to ban hollowpoints now

Post by Paladin »

Guess they're running out of things to ban

"Hollowed bullet easy to get & hard to survive

Hollow-point bullets like the one used in the slaying of Officer Daniel Enchautegui are much deadlier than ordinary bullets - and nearly as easy to get.

Cops favor using the hollow-point bullets because they are less likely to pass through a target and ricochet into a fellow cop or bystander.

But they want their public sale banned to keep them out of the hands of thugs like Enchautegui's alleged killers, Steven Armento and Lillo Brancato.

"Our mission is to stop violent felons," said Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch. "There is no reason for anyone else to have that ability."

Armento allegedly shot Enchautegui with his father's .357-caliber handgun, loaded with the hollow-point bullets.

Anyone with a gun permit can buy the hollow-points in a gun shop. They also are readily available on the black market.

"Anybody can go out and buy them," said Michael Palladino, head of the Detectives' Endowment Association.

The main difference between hollow-point and regular, "full-metal jacket" bullets is that the hollow-points flatten on impact and expand inside a target.

The NYPD switched to the new ammo in 1999.

"They are less likely to penetrate the intended target and hit a bystander," said Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne.

An on-duty cop's bulletproof vest would likely provide the same protection from a hollow-point as a regular bullet."

Well....it seems that they attempt broad attacks so the little things like hollow points seem minor. They are actively trying to deny the rights of people living in that state....what a crying shame. This article ruined my appetite!

Let's see if I understand;

I can't have hollow points because the cops don't want me to stop a felon and I will have to use ammunition that is more likely to penetrate a target and injure an innocent bystander....

What editor proof-reads this stuff before it is published?

I think what bugged me the most was the line:

"Anyone with a gun permit can buy the hollow-points in a gun shop. They also are readily available on the black market."

So if you've jumped through all the hoops to get a NYC gun permit (not easy at all), you can buy hollow points in the store. I guess without a permit you can't buy them at the store in NYC? Of course they admit this doesn't stop the criminals who readily buy them on the black market.

Their solution? Prohibit law abiding people with an NYC gun permit from purchasing hollow points.

I have to wonder which is worse? The media's lack of critical thinking for putting this stuff out or their readers lack of critical thinking for putting up with this stuff?

None! Well except to ensure that the proper "only cops need guns" tone is present.

Yes, you cannot buy, I'm not even sure you can possess, ammunition in NY City unless you are able to show the appropriate permit. It's different outside the city.

I would be willing to bet, from past, intimate, experience, that NY City will pass this as a rule and then try to impose the rule over the rest of the state, ala Chicago.

I had the misfortune of being forced, by my yankee carpetbagger parents who removed me from my native San Antonio when I was too young to defend myself, to grow up outside of Albany, NY.
