Utah instructor process
It seems like there's a lot of demand in Fort Bend, Harris, Brazoria and Galveston counties but nobody teaching the class near the Gulf Coast. How easy is it to become a Utah instructor? How long does it take?
We're here. With gear. Get used to it.
Re: Utah instructor process
The reason there are not as many Utah instructors as before is because Utah made the requirements a bit more stringent in 2005.
First, you have to be either an NRA Basic Pistol Instructor or POST certified firearms instructor. And you have to prove that, so if you are going under the NRA qualification, make sure you have your CARD. You know, the little paper card that you have no idea what you did with. Your nice pretty certificate is not good enough. Call the NRA, they will send you a new one.
Then you download the application here: http://bci.utah.gov/CFP/CFinstructor.pdf
Send it in with your $50 fee, and wait for them to notify you of the date of your instructor school.
Instructor school is only one day, but... it's in Salt Lake City. You will get your instructor card (looks just like the Utah CFP) in a pretty short time. I think it was about 3 weeks for me. You have to renew every 3 years.
Any other questions, just let me know. People call and email me ALL the time from Houston area, looking for an instructor, and I don't know anyone to send them to. Good luck!
