Ya'll check out Cash America Pawn in Lewisville, on Bidness 121.

they have a Kimber Eclipse for 1G, and a Pro Carry II for $600. also a couple o' Para's, and a Springfield full size.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Nope, since I have been at work. I am leery to buy from pawn shops unless it is an extremely good buy. The Kimber doesn't sound like a bad deal though. May have to check it out if I don't find something better.

Thanks,

oh, I hear ya. the Kimber, although it looks like it was just fired and then put in the display, is in rather good shape. tight frame/slide fit, real smooth action, and the slide moves nicely.
both of them for that matter.
I thought about pickin' up the Pro, shewt, I'm still thinkin' about it!: but I just can't get over the Schwartz FPB thing.

anyway, I saw a good deal at the last gun show for a Springfield Loaded model with the same "eclipse" finish on it for $882.
Sporting Arms has this gun for sale for $941. needless to say, I kicked my self whenst I returned home...
they have those "Armscor" Rock Island 1911's for a decent price, too.
good luck to ya, sir.

Keith - I'm still looking for a stainless 1911 in the $500 range.

So, when you find one that doesn't meet your criteria (cause it's priced too low) then let me know!

Keith, i would check out the Kimber as well. I carry a Pro CDP and it literally has never malfunctioned in 2k+ rounds. Nothing wrong with Pawn shops, they are not likely to sell a stolen gun. I cruise them about once a month and have found some gems. Oh and Double J, the FPB comes out real easy and is not an issue then.

rm9792 I have a Pro carry 2 with the FPB and I was wondering if you removed it what do you do with the hole that's in the slide on the bottom, Does it get dirt and grime in the Firing pin ???

second question how hard is it romove??

third question is what happens if you should have to use your weopon, and the guy you shoot lawyer founds out you removed a safety device??

So for high jacking this post

I ground the top of the pin down that is in the frame and left it in place as a kind of shim since there is a channel for it. The rear sight is removed and the parts literally fall out. The "lawyer" issue in court to me is urban legend. If you use the gun as intended then all the safety devices are disengaged anyway and wont make a bit of difference. Now if you remove safety devices and it does accidently discharge or you have a 8 oz trigger that the wind sets off then you might have a problem. Honestly though, 99% of the public will not know what a Swartz safety is and wont know it is missing. Castle Doctrine also backs you in a civil suit. Massad Ayoob covered this "lawyer" issue in an article a few months ago. I left the FPB in on my carry Kimber as i carry hammer down (much to the chagrin of this forum) but have taken it out of my safe queen Kimbers. i wouldnt recommend disabling the grip safety or the external safety but these FPB's are just silly and useless. How many people drop their gun on the barrel from a great height? Every one i have dropped (butter fingers moments!) has landed on its top or side, inertia would not move the firing pin at all.
maybe Chas could weigh in and correct me IANAL.

Does this fit the Kimber system or just the series 80 colts?

Sorry, I have to admit that I haven't been able to determine whether it fits any except Colt.

I found several threads on 1911 forums discussing using this, but all appeared to be Colts.

I did a search for T.J.'s Custom and came up with this:

T J's Custom Gunworks
Culver City, CA
(310) 558-4445

It would be a simple matter to call and inquire whether he is the maker and if something is offered for Kimber.

Well, I actually bought a pretty nice used one today. This is not mine, but just like it. Here is a link to an article about this model and a photo http://springfield-armory.primediaoutdo ... tory12.php

Will post photos of mine as soon as I get a chance.

You might check Bullet Trap in Plano. They have the Springfield GI model parkerized for $529 like Stevie D bought. Stainless $569. You get a little bit of a discount off of that if you happen to be a member. Their prices are about the best around that I have seen

If you want cheaper than that, Gun Masters has a RIA for about $375 (I think.)
