Looking for an evil Black rifle

Post by tboesche »

So I am going spend the Gov't bribery check on a new rifle. Problem is I am torn between an AK or an AR. Obviously, I can get an AK cheaper, and ammo is cheaper too. AR's are better quality and better shhooters but twice as expensive.

One concern is, IF the Dems get into office and somehow manage to get an new AW Ban passed, What then? AK parts and ammo will either dry up, or get way expensive.

WHAT TO DO????????? :confused5 :confused5 :confused5

I went looking for an AK about 2 months ago. Most of the good "real" AKs are long since sold and being stockpiled or sent overseas and modified to FA for use in the ME.

I have found that you can BUILD an AR (lower + upper) for about what you would pay for a nice AK. (100+399ish vs 399ish+100ish to make it like you want it).

I believe the Repubs are just as likely to push for a new AW Ban as the Dems. Neither are likely in the short term, and it will be very interesting to see how they react if SCOTUS comes out with a favorable ruling on the 2A.

As to your choice...it's tough one for most people. In my case, I wanted to assemble a good 3-gun collection that would become my primary use and training weapons. I settled on Glock (G19) - Bushmaster (M4) - Remington (870). They use common ammunition, are used by a wide range of US based organizations (LE and Military) and parts are readily available.

All that said, I'll probably still pick up an AK some day (if nothing else - to become familiar with the system), but it will be a while before funds are available. These days, any spare change goes to magazines and ammunition.

I'll probably spend some of my bribe on reloading equipment.

I have several AR's and reload,if you can buy bulk quantity's of powder primer and bullets and save or pick up range brass you can reload for about 12 cents a round loading 55grn fmj, with 20 grns reloader7, and a wolf small rifle primer, that's 1000 rounds at $120.00.

Lodge,
I already have a Remmington 870, though I would like to get a shorter barrel for it, as well as a CZ-75b and my Taurus PT-111, and a Winchester model 270 .22 pump. Now to get a decent Battle rifle. I have owned an AK and enjoyed shootin it. But darn if the current bread of AR's arent a good looking fine shootin piece of machinery. I just have a hard time paying 800+ for a rifle. I have no where near the skills needed to "build" my own gun. The thing would probably blow up in my face.

I was thinking a couple of stripped AR-15 lowers and the rest on powder & primers. Then again a couple of Beta mags & towers could be a wise choice as well.

Lifelibertyetc.com has a video showing step by step how to build one. The video is 12 minutes long. Thats exactly how long it takes to build even when stopping and explaining how everything goes together.

Here is the link. http://www.lifelibertyetc.com/RangeBag/ ... dLower.wmv

So your telling me that I can "build" an AR for less than 600.00 bucks? HHHMM, I may have to check on this. Do lowers or the parts kits have to be shipped to an FFL? What about uppers? Where can I buy the parts? I checked gunbroker.com, but where else might I look?

I watched the video you linked to, sure seems easy to do. What about building the upper?

Midwayusa.com has DPMS flattop bull uppers already assembled and ready to attach for $400

You can find the uppers for $100-109, the stock for $20-500 depending on your taste, and about $45-50 for that parts kit that he refrences in the video that has the grip, the pins, springs, trigger, etc.

The only item with shipping restrictions is the lower. The lower has to ship to a ffl.

so yeah...
400 upper
100 lower
50 stock
50 parts kit

and you would be ready for a little action .... (optics not incuded, but when are they ever...) :fire

check out..
http://www.militarygunsupply.com/ - lowers
http://www.model1sales.com/ - lowers, uppers, just about everything
http://www.midwayusa.com- has good prices on dpms stuff it seems.
http://www.dpms.com- parts kits, uppers, lowers
http://www.lonestarwholesale.com/ - lowers, stocks, etc <-- will be at DMH show this weekend.
http://www.cavalryarms.com/ - they make a polymer lower (like a glock lower)

So the upper is non FFL? I would have thought that the upper was and the lower was not. I'l' check out Midway

The lower has the serial number thats why its FFL.

This is the upper I was looking at...

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... t=11082005

DPMS Upper Assembly AR-15 Flattop Upper with Bolt Carrier Assembly 223 Remington 1 in 9" Twist 16" Bull 4140 Carbon Steel Matte

only $408

A good start. You can swap out uppers as well. There uppers made in other calibers as well, all you do is pull those two takedown pins and attach the other upper to your lower. Takes 30 seconds and you have a new gun

I just did an AR15 build. It took me a little longer than 12 minutes to assemble the lower, but I could do it much faster this time. There are a great set of build instructions on AR15. I highly recommend stepping up and getting a better trigger than stock. It kinda sucks. I put the Rock River 2 stage in mine. I can't wait to build my next one. :hurry:

Oh, and ummmm yeah, I've a little more than $600 in it.

 eotech

Thats the nice thing about it though..... he can add the 2 stage trigger later. Thats how im justifying it to myself. Im not buying a $1600 rifle... im building a $600 rifle and if it happens to get upgraded along the way after use ....

All right, Y'all have pretty much convinced me. I am gonna build my own. Not to decide on which upper and which lower to get. I know the Barrel NEEDS to be chrome lined, and I want to keep it short.
