Your Representative

Post by JDKRIEK »

How many have contacted their representative?

What was their response?
... In speaking with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), I am told that the CHL Bureau is about 15-30 days behind in processing original CHL applications and 10-15 days behind in processing CHL renewal applications. The standard 60-day processing time for both original and renewal CHL applications is now currently running at about 90-day processing time. This backlog is due to a 40% increase in applications since late 2007. To help remedy this backlog, the CHL Bureau has hired temporary employees and is working employees on overtime schedules ...

Thank you,

Libby Goss

Email to your Senator too! Throw Perry a line too. Hit them all! When they get tired of hearing from constituents maybe they will do something to fix.

I was going to title a separate thread entitled "jumped the line?"

But this seems like a good thread to post in

The restaurant where I work had a Texas senator in for lunch today, I've talked to him on a few occasions and today I asked him about the CHL bureau backlog

and he said that it was a huge issue and the budget didn't properly fund the dept

he also said the legislature was concerned since most of them also carry.

Afterwords he offered to look in to my application, so i am apologizing in advance if I'm stepping on anyone else's application.

Did i take him up on his offer? :thumbs2: you betcha!!

Success! :hurry:

Simply amazing what a simple email does (Representative)

The DPS website changed to "Processing Application" today around 10:30 AM

Lee Williams from the DPS called me @ 10:00 AM today and informed me that my application was good and that it was currently at the manufacture being made and that it would be done in 7-10 days. He left his phone number so I could reach him directly and said he would keep me updated if anything changed.

He did mention something I never thought about though. He said once it gets back from the manufacture they have to check its quality, which made him leery to speculate on the 7-10 day time period.

Almost exactly what they told me when they called me, but Leo is a solid on his info, you can pretty much trust what he says.

Actually, he had called me after mine was made and said there was a slight problem with my license, in that the tint of the picture was slightly off (a greenish hue), so they were thinking of remaking it. I asked him if it would cause any problem with LEO, and when he said no not at all then I asked him to kindly ship ASAP ;-) Was in my mailbox a couple days later.

P.S. be sure to write a thank you letter to your Representative/Senator who helped along the way - I'm sure it'll be helpful for the next guy.

Hopefully Leo will give me a call if something similar transpires and yes I completely agree, unless it will cause a problem - just issue it. I will definitely be writing a thank you letter to my representative and his district aide.

Give them a timeline (in our signatures on the forum) with dates and state that after 87 days your status is STILL "packet mailed to applicant" and that is unacceptable as far as you are concerned. Ask them to contact the DPS on your behalf and have your application pulled and checked. Ask that when the DPS pulls your application to have someone from their (DPS) office contact you before the end of the day with a detailed status report. State that you would like for your status on the website to be updated - if there is something to update it with and IF all is GOOD - please issue your license. Last but not least thank your representative for their time and involvement.

Read the thread: PRAISE THE LORD and PASS THE AMMUNITION! in the "Waiting Room".

After a reasonable time (60-70 days) without approval or any realistic comment from DPS, it's time to let the 'big dogs' run. That's why we elected them and why we pay taxes...you think? :txflag:

I received a letter from the DPS a few days after I got my plastic. This is what it said,

"June 2, 2008

The Department is in receipt of your e-mail correspondence to the Governor's Office regarding your application for a concealed handgun license. We regret the delay in processing your application. During the past five months we have received a significant increase in applications, which has created a backlog in processing.

Our records indicate that your license was issued on May 31. If you do not receive the license in the mail or if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Jane Coffey, Manager, Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau at jan.coffey@txdps.state.tx.us.

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Davis, Jr.
Director

cc: Dede Keith, Administration and Constituent Servercies, Office of the Governor"

I don't think complaining got my application done quicker but it is sure nice to know some is listening to my complaining. Of course they did send it to me by UPS (yes the brown trucks) next day delivery so maybe complaining did do something.

Well I just emailed my representative for his assistance, it has been 59 days and no PIN (I also emailed DPS for a PIN as well). Hopefully I haven't rubbed anyone the wrong way.
