Cary At Casino's

Post by carlson1 »

I am not a gambler, but today I met another CHL man who frequents Shrevport LA. He told me there were no signs and he carried all the time. My question is that legal? I would think not, but I have no law in my mind. Does anyone know if it is legal or not?

It's not - I have been a few times. I checked with LA state police and they said casino's are prohibited. Same story with OK casinos.

We don't teach it in CHL classes because we don't have casinos in Texas.

It would make sense that casinos would be off-limits since they have both gambling and consumption of "adult" beverages going on. But, you would have to check Louisiana laws to be absolutely certain.

My personal policy is "better safe than sorry." Stay out of the casinos and play the Texas lottery instead!

Basically what gigag04 and llwatson said.

However, I can’t find anything specific to gambling/casinos in their CHL laws. But, there is a restriction on establishments with a "Class A-General retail permit" which seems to be a liquor license for on premises consumption. And that would probably pretty well include every casino there is.

The lottery is a tax on stupid people :)

Casino's are a guaranteed loss (over the long run) unless you play poker or count cards...both of which I can do ;-)

As far as checking with LA law, I actually called the main office of the LA state police...which regulate carry in LA and they checked and said for sure casinos are off limits on the boats. Hotels are ok from what I gathered.

Yeah... well, call me stupid, but while I am scratching off my lottery tickets with my pretty little Glock by my side, you are leaving the casino with your big ole wad of cash - trying to figure out how you are going to make it back to the safety of your car without getting mugged.

Now tell me again, my Aggie friend, who is the stupid one?

<---- wondering what stevie would say.....

I guess I could say look at the numbers...????

How man casino attacks requiring a gun to get you out of the situation. Also...I roll about 4 deep (3 other guys) when I go....and my gun is in the room..and I dont have to go outside to get to it.

In OK the security personal open carry Glock 22s which is real cool I think.

That's exactly why it makes no sense for them to be off-limits. If you have to be where people are being stupid, be armed!

Then again, I'm just a bit contrarian about this. "Reasonable" restrictions result in the horrible hodgepodge of places off limits, and the very serious criminal penalties for breaking them.

Of course, you'd have to pay me to go to a casino in the first place. Mary is from Shreveport, so we visit regularly. We just celebrated our fourth anniversary, but we never went to the boats even when we were dating and she still lived there.

Well...

You stand a really good chance (better odds) of getting hit by that bolt of lightning, if you stand out in open high ground with a #4 rebar held tight in your hands that stick up about 15 feet above your head...

Than winning any lottery...And I mean the big pay-offs...Not the cheesy crap winnings you get like at McDonalds...

Me you say??? Well thats a different story...

I save my money to buy stock in things I am really interested in (hint, hint), and get a much better return...

"wondering what Stevie would say???" Pulleeeeeze...

We need to work on you some, Mr. Nicholas...

Good thing we don't live in the Old West, Nick! If you got caught counting the cards you might need your gun to get out of the room
I do not think anyone has figured out a sure way to make money in a casino...I figure a penny saved is a penny earned so I just walk into the stop n' go like the stupid idiot I am (with my gun) and buy a good old lottery ticket, a Diet Pepsi and have a good brief conversation with my friend behind the counter. At the end of the day I have saved a good bit considering how much gas costs these days and never compromise my safety.

The only gambling I do is $4 a week: one ticket for each drawing on Texas Lotto and MegaMillions. It's less than a combo meal at Micky D, and, unlike lighting, somebody has to be the one!

I wonder if LEO's from out of state are covered under 238 in a casino. Never gave it much thought.
