Carry at the Alamo
I will be visiting the Alamo next week and wonder what their policy is. I understand it is state property but is managed by a private group. Anyone know for sure?
I was there 2 yr ago. Looked real carefully. No 30-06 sign. Went in like we owned the place.
Really need on of the city dwellers to speak for sure since it has been that long.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

That was the first (and only) place I've ever been "busted" for carrying in a fanny pack. At the time, they did NOT have a 30.06 sign in place, but rather a little engraved sign somewhere on premises. I was confronted by a "law enforcement" looking fellow who asked for my credentials and if I was carrying and informed me (gave me the verbal notice) that handguns were not allowed on the premises.
Fortunately, I was on the way out as we had been pretty much through the entire place, and opted to leave.
I've never carried in a fanny pack since
James
p.s. That's been SEVERAL years ago, probably close to 6 or 7 but I'm not sure since my memory fails me at times

This is one of those touchy feely ones...
I recall a few years ago, I got into a discussion about the Alamo, and all the can you carry, should you carry debate...
Since its not posted with the proper 30.06 statute, I can't think of a reason not to, and for it to be that big a deal...
The Daughter's of the Republic of Texas run the facility, and I have yet to confirm any policy regarding the carrying under Texas's CHL law being restricted...That is a private entity, and I believe they would be right in posting the 30.06 is they wanted to...
But...I have also heard, and tested the waters myself in inquiring to their "check-in" your firearms procedure at the security office...
I kinda felt taken back by that, and figured that to be a positive, yet still untrustful policy...
I plan on being at the Republican State Convention there this year, and I may wander over there to ge the straight in person scoop and try to remember to get the info back here for everyone to see...
Until then, I hope someone may beat me to it...Try it out...See whats shakin' there, and let us know...I can't see why it would be a bad thing to ask...
Not like Santa Ana's going to invade again...

The DRT operates it, but it belongs to the State of Texas. It's government property.stevie_d_64 wrote:The Daughter's of the Republic of Texas run the facility, and I have yet to confirm any policy regarding the carrying under Texas's CHL law being restricted...That is a private entity, and I believe they would be right in posting the 30.06 is they wanted to...

The last time I was in the Alamo was in early December, 05. I was carrying and looked thoroughly for any signs; even invalid signs; but there were none.
Regretfully, there was some sort of Mexican (nationalist) protest taking place out on the street and a multitude of Mexican flags were being flown. I considered shouting "deguello" and engaging but thought it might spoil the moment.

Good thought nemesis. Just don't need any of the GG's in jail.

That will either get them to scatter, or charge...

I used to carry in a fanny pack too...jimlongley wrote:Last time I was there I carried in my fanny pack, and nobody said a word.
But I also wore a beenie cap with a propeller on it...So thats what I think really garnered me a lot of attention...I think they put 2 & 2 together and came up with 5...
I have no idea why though...

Funny though...Everytime I do see someone else wearing a fanny pack, it takes me about 2 nanny seconds to determine if that person is carrying or not...And usually its an educated yes...
