Dont know about down on the coast but up here things are starting to get scarse.
Yesterday Diboll was reported out of gas in several locals. Mom works for Brookshire Bros here in Lufkin, & they were very low. Supposed to have more today though.
With lines long, gas short, batteries too, then tempers get short too.

Prepare early. Be careful. Stay safe.

Every time one of these storms head this way I because we bought a two story house.

Hanging plywood is a chore.

Even though this one is tracking towards Louisiana I am still preparing.

I hired me a handyman to help with the front winders.

They are shipping New Orleans residents out at this time. I am wondering where they are shipping them out to.

N.O. people were supposed to be sent to northern La, they said it wouldn't make sense to evacuate them to another area where it could hit. I'm not sure if they followed through.

North bound traffic through Lufkin is really thick this afternoon.
The 2 stations close here are out of fuel. Several in town are too.
I know all the motels here are full.

The 4 p.m. update from the National Hurricane Center has Gustav's sustained winds at 150mph, close to becoming a cat 5 storm. It should be crossing Cuba within the hour, and is expected to be a cat 5 not long after.

It seems to have picked up a little speed, too, and is now expected to make U.S. landfall mid-afternoon Monday instead of early Tuesday. There's a better level of confidence in the track now, with an expected possible error of 80-100 miles to either side. The center of the track puts it going into Louisiana at Houma or Morgan City, continuing as a cat 1 hurricane up to about Leesville or Deridder, then turning westerly into Texas as a tropical storm, passing just about through Nacogdoches. Should just bring rain and 30mph winds by then.

The good news is that wind-shear forces are expected to weaken from a cat 5 down to maybe a 2 before landfall. The bad news for New Orleans is that this time they'll be on the dirty side of the storm...they weren't with Katrina; Katrina's highest storm surge was well east of New Orleans at the Mississippi border. If Gustav stays on this track and comes in as a cat 3, N.O. may be hit just as hard as it was with Katrina.

Houston has officially announced it will not be an available refugee city this time. We have to be on alert ourselves for Gustav--still a 10% chance with the updated forecast that Galveston will see hurricane-force winds--and then Hannah behind it. Louisiana's governor is telling people to go north, since Gustav is expected to continue northwest, then turn westerly after landfall. Heading toward Texas would not be the best direction to flee the storm.

Watch the news Sunday, everybody. There are still several factors at play steering the storm, and it won't take much westerly shift tomorrow to nudge it straight at Texas. And even if it hits Louisiana, there's still a chance it will stall and change directions west, maybe even re-entering the gulf first.

Still a LOT of traffic headed North on 69 here.

When MTICop was up & I posted the 4 generations of shooters, that day I broke the extention off the safety of my SA 1911A1. Went to pick it up about an hr ago. One of the fuel stations here had gas again & the line was really stacked up. If it makes land like it is supposed to Monday noon then we should be in the storm about Tues night & in the early Wed morning.

Plenty of provision here.
Food, water cans galore, propane, Bear back on duty at my side, ice, & 15gal of fuel besides the full vehicles & 5 more at Moms.
Now we wait I guess.
