Preventing a Massacre- Express News San Antonio 9.21.08

Post by Rokyudai »

mysa.com has been firing out a few of these types of commentary articles lately. I'm providing no direction on how folks want to view it. I'm still letting my pressure lower. I did have to comment on that site but I probably sputtered out a fraction of what I really wanted to say. Anyhoo, aside from some of the technology that has been installed on college campuses to help minimize body counts and maybe prevent school shootings, the majority of the leaders in the hallowed halls of learning FAIL to utilize the greatest tool of all in defense, their mind. Common sense ain't so common anymore.

“If I could shoot the defendant dead within the limits of the law in exchange for every penny I have asked for, I would shoot him dead and walk away penniless.”

Those words, tucked into a lawsuit filed this summer by a San Antonio College student against her speech professor, prompted district officials to seek a restraining order against the student, effectively kicking her out of school.

While once rare for a college to seek a restraining order against a student, the one sought against Franchesca O'Neal, a 26-year-old political science major, was the third that Alamo Community Colleges filed within a two-month period, unprecedented for the district. Officials at ACC and other San Antonio campuses say they cannot recall ever seeking a restraining order against a student before.

The district's lawyer, Martha McCabe, said the response reflects a new attitude toward safety after mass shootings at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University.

Before those tragedies, “it was easer for people in higher education to be tolerant and say, ‘Oh, they are just kids shooting off their mouths or being goofy,'” McCabe said. “We no longer think it is ethical to take risks with other people's children.”

O'Neal claims Falcon ridiculed her in front of the class by saying he did not understand a speech she gave. Falcon gave her a B in the class, hurting her chances of eventually becoming a Supreme Court justice, O'Neal said in the lawsuit. She sued for $5 million and an A in the class.
And they needed to wait for the threats to figure out this one was a basket case?

Well, I was a bad boy. One of the comments posted was against the legislation to allow CHLs to carry on campus, so I copied it, reworded it, and posted it. Hopefully they'll see the sarcasm intended.
