Got my guns back today!!!!!

Post by CodeJockey »

Many of you may remember that back in April, my home was broken into, and my entire gun safe was stolen. Well, a few months back the Chief of Police called me and said they had recovered at least some of my weapons in a raid on a drug house. He told me it would most likely be 2+ years before I got them back. Well, he called me today and said that they were ready for pick up!!!!

They recovered 6 of my weapons, and they are all back safe and sound. Only one showed any signs of abuse, but it's just a few minor scratches to the finish, most likely form being jostled inside the safe!!!!!

I'm glad you got them back (and also glad the cops got them off the street).

How many did you originally have in the safe?
My posts on this website are worth every cent you paid me for them.

Well, there are still three unaccounted for, and unfortunately two of them were fairly valuable. The safe itself was not a mere locker; however, it wasn't a massive safe either. I'd estimate the weight of the safe at about 300lbs. The most important one I got back though was a gun that I was given by my grandfather. It is a very valuable gun; however, more than that, it's priceless in sentimental value.

Good news indeed on the recovery of your weapons! I've had stuff stolen too and know its not fun, especially when you never see your stuff again.

How was the safe secured? Did you have it anchored to the floor or walls? Im asking for purely informational reasons, not to ridicule or criticise. Im about to purchase my 1st "real" gun safe and want to get as much info as I can to keep the same from happening to me.

The safe was not secured. That was a huge mistake on my part. I would definitely recommend securing it to the slab if possible!

Now for something really stupid. In another forum, someone from Florida has also just gotten their weapons back (long rifles at least, still waiting on handguns) that were stolen. They have been told that they will NOT be getting back over $300 in ammo. The case agent told her that because they cannot verify the condition of the ammo (i.e.; it might have been tampered with) taken in a robbery it is SOP not to return it.

Nothing like having your ammo stolen twice.

They stole at least $300 in ammo from me, perhaps more. I'm not sure how many rounds I had to be quite honest. I didn't get any of it back. I also didn't get back some misc. things in the safe such as magazines, choke tubes, etc. But they didn't give me an excuse like that, they simply said that they weren't recovered.

Makes one wonder if it was a "common police caliber"....
