Renewal schedule - input welcome - quick question

Post by fickman »

My CHL expires in mid-November. I don't want to wait too late to get my renewal done, but I was worried that I might accidentally take the class too early. What are the important timing milestones for me to be aware of, and during what window of time would you recommend I take the renewal class?

Thanks in advance for your input. . .

As I understand it, you can apply for renewal and take the class no more than 6 months prior to the expiration date.

It took me 53 total days from door to door to get my renewal back. Some are longer and some are even shorter.

As long as you are within that 6 month window you should be fine

I believe the earliest you can take the renewal class and get the T100 (or whatever the form is called) is 6 months earlier than your expiration date. Any earlier and it is not valid.

You can take the class up to one year before your expiration. Then you apply online for your renewal 6 months before it expires. It takes DPS a couple of weeks to send you your application in the mail, and then you are already ready with your paperwork to send it back to them.

We have done this for lots of renewals, especially couples who expire in the same year and want to take the class together.

Apply for a UT license and let them overlap and you won't ever expire. :)

You can get a Pennsylvania license in as little as 10 days to overlap your renewal period.
