I was leaving a gas station, pulled up to the stop sign. Making a left turn across I-35w. I have to admit that I got a little agressive and punched it turning left. My Mustang slides the back end very easily. Today was no exception. The back end rotated about about 30 degrees past the direction of travel and I held it there. As I cross over 35 and pull to the next stop sign I see a Black and white behind me. I knew what was coming. Sure enough, as soon as we clear the intersection, the lights come on.

I pull over, shut the car off, place the keys on top of the dash board and retrieve my ID's and insurance. Driver came up on my side and "printed" on the trunk lid. Partner came up on the passenger side. He asks for the info and asks if I am in a hurry. I answer "no, I guess I just got a little carried away". He asks if I have my weapon and when I replied he asks where it was. I explain that it is on my right hip inside the waste band. He hands me back my CHL and Insurance and says he will be right back.

A couple minutes later he comes back and hands me my DL. He looks at me and says "Slow down for me ok?" I answered, "Yes sir, thank you, I appreciated it.

I COMPLETELY deserved a ticket. I could not have asked for a better stop.

I got mine dismissed back when it was a Class B Misd. because the officer didn't take me to jail on Christmas Eve, so it ended up in Municipal Court instead of County... Hehe.

Drifting isn't any more dangerous than regular driving in my opinion if you know what you're doing, and practice makes perfect.

It has been several years ago now, but I was coming in to Abilene from the South side of town and a guy passed me like I was sitting still and a few minutes later a Highway Patrol officer, in one of those fancy Mustangs, came across the median right in front of me and he got on it....and it got away from him ...there we sit, he was facing me and I was facing him. The look on his face was kind of funny and I guess mine was too, never the less, he straighten it out and took off after the other guy. I never saw either of them again, so I don't know if he caught him or not.

It is when you're in traffic, and nobody around you is doing it. That stuff belongs on the racetrack, not on public streets.

Sorry, I should have said "responsible drifting isn't any more dangerous..."

Please note that I don't think driving is safe at all anyway. People just tell themselves that if they wear their seatbelts and use their blinkers that they'll be safe so that they can function in today's world.

Drifting is when you go around a corner and you over accelerate causing the back of the car to slide out past the direction of travel and holding there while traveling in a straight line. Basically keeping the car crossed up.

NO, exhibition of acceleration is part of the street racing offenses and was made a class B misdemeanor. As one of the unintended consequences of this change, the officer now has to prove that you were actually part of some type of race (even against the clock in just one vehicle counts), so just spinning out is no longer a state offense. Some cities do have ordinances against it though.

And never trust the DPS arrest titles for what is an offense. They use words that are not actually in the law and misuse the wording of the law for a description. The offense referred to is properly titled "Moving a parked vehicle" and is described as "Sec. 545.402. An operator may not begin movement of a stopped, standing, or parked vehicle unless the movement can be made safely." Basically it means you cannot pull out in front of another car and cause an accident.

It's exhibition of speed and acceleration and it is not a Class B offense. It's a Class C moving violation. Reckless driving is a Class B offense.

I'm just telling you what they told me...

My ticket said "exhibition of acceleration" and was written by San Marcos PD.

The DA said that because I wasn't arrested and ended up in municipal court they didn't have the authority to do anything about. She said the fact that I went for "not guilty" helped.

I was told by a couple officers that it was a Class B and that I should have been arrested.

Oh well, in the grand scheme of things, it didn't affect my CHL, so I'm happy.

I know you were just telling what they told you. I'm just trying to clarify for you. Just 'spinning your tires or fish tailing' doesn't necessarily constitute reckless/careless driving. The officer would have to prove that it put someone in danger. So, rather than go through all that and most likely loss the case, they write a citation for a moving violation 'exhibition of speed and acceleration.' That's all I would have done from what you described.
