Bumper stickers

I've come across several good bumper stickers this week. The first set came in my welcome letter from the Second Amendment Foundation (a follow-up to the 8 NRA gift memberships I gave out over Christmas). The letter contained three stickers: A yellow warning diamond that says "Warning: Driver only carries $20 in ammunition". The second warns intruders that the owner of the house is armed and "there's nothing in here worth losing your life for".

Then today, my sister-in-law (one of the recipients of an NRA membership) sends me a link to a bumper sticker site with a series of gun topics. The url is http://www.bumperart.com/Guns.htm. The company also sells stickers for numerous other topics.

I saw one the other day with a Marine Corps emblem on it and the statement, "Give War A Chance". I almost laughed myself off the road.

Mr. Massad Ayoob, noted gun expert, author, marksman, and expert witness for the
defense, has stated that putting any stickers on your vehicles relating to guns is a
bad idea. I agree.

1. If you get in a road rage incident or accident with another person, they may see
your "NRA" sticker and later claim that you drew down on them, making your lawyer
bills go way up to defend yourself.

2. You usually don't want to tip off your employer that you are a gun owner.

3. If you have to unholster in a gun-free zone, say a school, the car burglary bad
guys will hit your vehicle first since they can reasonably assume that you had to
leave your piece in the car.

4. Some bad guy that wants to carjack you for your nice ride might see the gun
sticker and decide to just shoot you right away since he can make the reasonable
assumption that you are an armed person.

Great - now if he has to unholster to go to his daughter's school function, the bad
guys have a great chance to pick up a .45 using a rock to gain access to his truck.

Don't force him to disarm. That will help keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Problem solved.

I guess I’m just one of those “politically incorrect daredevils” then.

I respect much of what Mr. Ayoob writes but I hardly consider him to be “correct” all the time on every subject.

I'll bet I could make a better case that the "other person" attacked me (because he's a soccer Dad/Mom) than what you propose. In any case....this "bogus charge" nonsense can be played both ways, so.... how much money do you want spend.

Possibly (depends on circumstance), however unless you have documentation that MOST employers are anti-gun and would take measures against you based on this status....then I will simply disregard this as so much fear mongering.

Put it in a lock box, this is the prudent thing to do. Also, burglars in parking lots are NOT taking inventory, meeting afterward and deciding which vehicles to "hit" first. They quickly look for vehicles that are easily broken into, that have some item(s) that they can quickly remove and pose the least chance of them being seen/caught. An NRA sticker is NO indicator that a firearm exists in a vehicle anyway.

Any "bad guy" with an atom of common sense would simply choose a softer target. Surely, you would agree that a "presumed to be armed person" can also represent a deterrent factor. More fear mongering with no reasonable base IMO.

Each person must do whatever they think is best with consideration to their lifestyle and principles.

Personally, I refuse to be driven underground for being a gun owner, law abiding citizen, supporter of the 2nd Amendment/RKBA. I will proudly display my "choice" to own firearms, bear them where legal, and promote my philosophy. I am UN-APOLOGETIC about it.....and equally UN-AFRAID of the (what if's, this could's, and you might's).

For crying out loud, stand up your hind legs gun owners!

Yeah....I know.

Some subjects really put a burr under my saddle though.

Maybe I'd do better to exercise my "right to remain silent" more.

I certainly mean no disrespect to anyone....it was just my personal opinion. Besides...I can always blame it on old age (its making me kinda grumpy I think).

I think this is the really pressing question for people to ask themselves. Because that is what 2A, the American Revolution, etc. all goes back to. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. So do you really want to give even more power to the State by allowing them to take away your power to defend yourself? Since you often hear people or movies worrying about the coming "Police State," well, it doesn't have to be that way if we're all armed!
