More training after CHL

Post by Tecitez16 »

I'm looking for some additional training. Is there any classes or courses in the DFW area that provides this. Sure I can hit paper pretty good in a controlled environment but I'm pretty sure I wont be as calm as if someone was to kick in my door while I'm asleep. just wanting to go beyond the accuracy is all.. :patriot:

I don't know nuthin' 'bout Dallas, but there seem to be quite a few places that offer personal defense training: http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q= ... gun+dallas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Check on the internet under IDPA. IDPA stands for International Defensive Pistol Association. What we do is hold shooting matches where we try and simulate real life situations with card board targets. It is a ton of fun, very informative and instructional, and no one expects a new shooter to do well or know all the rules.

The people are great and eager to help. Dallas probably has a lot of IDPA matches around the town.

All you need is a gun (pistol or revolver,9mm or larger), a holster, an extra magazine (a mag holder is preferred, but not required), eye and ear protection, and a desire to have a lot of fun with a great group of folks who like to shoot.

Here is the IDPA link. http://www.idpa.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Go to the link, then club info, then club listing, click on the texas map and scroll down to the city of Dallas. Here is one http://www.dallaspistol.com/DAPS/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please be aware that they are listed by city, and like Houston, can have outlying cities names rather than Dallas (ie Conroe and Hempstead are listed, but are just outside the Houston city limits).

Give it a try. I did, and boy, does it help your shooting and your confidence (and you do not have to be a young stud in great shape, old folks like me do alright).

Heck, the old timers do much better than us younger brethren. That old saying:
Age and cunning beat youth and vigor
I am new to it and I have been learning a lot. Biggest thing is to drop the ego and listen to those old timers as they have a huge collection of knowledge. ;-)

Jim Wolfe, one of my CHL instructors (my class had two) teaches training / tactics courses. He has all levels from beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

I took his class at Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine. A quick Google search turned up this web site:
http://www.mwchltraining.com/contact.html

This one looks more current: http://www.wchltraining.com/html/about_us.html

The web site only mentions his CHL classes, but I know he worked with a range in the area to do his advanced courses. Might as well shoot him an email or give him a call and see what he's up to.

Dont' forget to check the Advanced Training forum on this site. Also, if you are willing to travel a bit and stay overnight now and then, it opens up you options a whole bunch.

I'm on the coast but I see good reviews of Paul Gomez in the DFW area.
