Friendswood: Child molester on the prowl

In Friendswood, yesterday, a man tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into a car in the 300 block of Gleneagles Drive. He left when the girl refused. Possibly the same man was later seen cruising around the 600 block of Oak Drive.

He is described as, "a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s who might have been wearing a hat over his thick, black, curly or wavy hair ... driving a medium to dark blue car, possibly a 1990s model Nissan or Pontiac Bonneville with dark tented windows."

This pattern of behavior suggests a man who has lost restraint on his urges. He may not stop until he kidnaps a victim or is caught.

The first location is ironically close to PSC.

Things like this can happen anywhere, anytime. Therefore, children should be taught how to avoid such situations and how to handle them when they occur.

When a predator is known to be active in a certain area, it doesn't hurt to remind them and keep your eyes open.

It's also important to remember that the majority of child molesting cases are between family members or non-relatives who live in the household (mothers' boyfriends seem particularly troublesome), or other acquaintances such as school personnel.

At Bus Stop, Man Offers Girl, 11, Ride

FRIENDSWOOD — An 11-year-old girl waiting for a school bus was approached last week by a man who asked the child whether she wanted a ride, the third such incident in a month’s time, authorities said Monday.

The heavyset man had short brown hair, a black mustache and drove an older red compact car, possibly a Nissan, police said.

He approached the girl at Blackhawk Boulevard and Laura Leigh Drive on March 9. She ran to Brookside Intermediate and reported the incident to family after school, and the family told police March 10.

Investigators have not identified the man, and Friendswood Police Chief Bob Wieners said incident isn’t related to two cases of suspicious behavior around school children in February, in which one man was seen circling a bus stop and another tied to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car.

Well, none of the offenders in these earlier cases have been apprehended. Now there are more in the same area. From the Galveston County Daily News, this date:

FRIENDSWOOD — Police are asking residents to be aware of a man and woman who tried to lure two young children into a van.

The latest case is similar but unrelated to other incidents earlier this year, which prompted police to alert parents of suspicious behavior around school bus stops.

Two brothers, one in elementary school and the other in middle school, were playing near their home about 8 p.m. Monday when a van approached them near Love Lane and Championship Drive, Friendswood police said.

A woman in the passenger seat, described as white, from 20 to 30 years old, had straight, shoulder-length brown hair and a fair complexion.

She wore a red, long-sleeve shirt, a thick necklace over the neck of the shirt and bluejeans.

She rolled the window down and tried to lure the children in the van, Friendswood Police Chief Bob Wieners said.

“They said they had something in the vehicle for them,” Wieners said. “They went home and reported it. We had units on Parkwood and into the area very quickly but weren’t able to locate the vehicle.”

The newer-model, navy van was driven by a white man, who was in his 20s or 30s and had straight, short to medium brown hair, a fair complexion and no facial hair. The van had a white bumper sticker with blue lettering on the back bumper and the last two digits on the license plate are 6 and 1, police said.

A Windsor Estates resident reported seeing a similar van.

The case is unrelated to three instances of suspicious activity involving children at school bus stops, Wieners said.

The PC thing in the news is getting old fast. Is he black, white, mexican, asian...? You can PC, caucasion, pacific-islander, african-american all you want. So I should just look for a male person driving a red Nissan? Next thing you know, we're being sexist for saying it's a guy, and we'll wind up with, "A heavyset person had short hair..." Oh wait, we can't offend short haired people...or their mustaches... It get's to the point where we start glazing our eyes over everything because we can't call things for what they are anymore, so why bother? I dared to rage...
