IL: Bill in legislature to require $1M liability insurance

Post by seamusTX »

A bill in the Illinois legislature would require every owner of a firearm in the state to carry $1 million liability insurance for any willful or negligent harm caused by anyone using the weapon.

The firearm owner's liability would extend to anyone using the weapon, including a thief until such time as the owner reports the weapon stolen.

This bill probably will not make it into law, but this is what the long-suffering people of Illinois have to put up with.

The good news is that they are also considering a concealed-carry bill, which is also unlikely to pass.

I think enforcing the car insurance laws for everyone, including illegals, would benefit society more.

Mrs. O'Leary's cow was framed, the object of anti-bovine hate speech at the time:

You're quite right, of course. Uninsured, drunk, and otherwise impaired drivers cause far more damage than law-abiding firearms owners.

But more people drive cars than own firearms. Such a move would lead to voter rebellion, much like charging $100 for a driver license.

Or requiring a renewal class every four years.
