Police officers who responded to a 911 call of an attempted robbery at the center shot one of the men when he pointed a loaded 9-millimeter pistol at them, officials said. The police identified the suspect as Gavin Nugent, 32, of Brooklyn. He was hit in the torso and wrist and taken to Kings County Hospital Center. He was later charged with burglary, robbery and weapons possession, the police said.
Two other men, Dwayne Jackson, 35, and Carl Grierson, 39, were also arrested and faced similar charges, the police said.
On Friday, detectives were looking into whether the holdup was an inside job and the robbers knew that it was the center’s payday. But as they received more information from one of the suspects, they went back to the house with a search warrant and discovered the drugs and money in a basement closet, which had not been seen by the officers who responded initially, the police said.
