How often do you clean your guns?

Post by atxgun »

Do you clean your guns after every shoot, or after a set amount of rounds?

What kinds of solvents, oils, brushes do you use?

What is there to look out for to avoid going overkill and inadvertently damaging your guns some how from excessive cleanings?

excessive cleaning? Full cleaning within 24 hrs of range session, ie. couple 100s rds.

Clean all weapons after every range trip somewhere between 150-200 rounds through both 9 and 40. I like to have everything cleaned and ready to go.

I clean'em every time this thread comes up.:

srsly, asking these folk what solvents to use is like asking them what caliber to carry!

with non-corrosive ammo, it's not as big a deal to clean'em every range trip, but I like doing it, and it does afford you the oppurtunity to spot check the weapon to make sure everything is still kosher (springs, frame doesn't have a crack, stuff like that).
a clean and properly lubed gun will function eminently better regardless.

except for Glocks. I think those are spoda run better dirty... :biggrinjester:
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Once a week or every time I use them, which ever comes first. i own only 2 hand guns. I use Hoppes and any oil I happen to have. Usually 3 in i.
Cleaning to me is as much about inspection as actual cleaning.. Both my guns have reputations for reliability while being pretty dirty.

1. After every trip to the range or zombie breakout, whichever comes first.

2. in the not too distant future, every time a potential boyfriend shows up... :fire :reddevil

I, too, clean my glocks about once a year. Up until this past year that's been about every 1,000 - 1,500 rounds.

Good rule of thumb I found out the hard way from muh Dad...

When you shoot milspec ammo thru a TCR chambered for the .308

It's a good idea (if you're not going to shoot it again for a while) to eject that cartridge before you put the gun up for 2 1/2 years, even if you don't plan to clean it...

Good thing I know a guy that was able to help me break that rifle down and we got it cleaned up...Works like a champ now... :thumbs2: :thumbs2: :thumbs2:

I clean them after each time they are fired 1 or 1000 rounds doesn't matter. Carry guns, on the first of the month unless fired. My BUG is the only carry gun that usually gets the once a month treatment.

To paraphrase my Drill Sargent in basic training - - - A clean gun is a happy gun. :thumbs2: If I said what he said it would violate the nine year old granddaughter rule. :smilelol5: "rlol"

About every 250 rounds, or so. Or when I'm bored more often.
