Finally got my plastic

Post by coog83 »

Hello everyone,

I've been a lurker around here for a while, but now that I have my card in hand, I thought I would start posting. For those who are interested, I'm in Harris County, and from send off to receipt of my license, I waited 169 days. I sent it off on March 23. Of course, they had to get my address wrong and are now charging me for a reprint, blaming it on my writing. So how was it after over five months of background checks, they couldn't catch a discrepancy of my street address not matching any records? The answer I got was that they don't check your address when they do background checks!!!! WOW! I have nothing nice to say about that. I don't think we should be like Alabama and take 15 minutes and 30 dollars at the DPS office, with no training or evaluation course, but the system in our state needs some tweaking, IMHO.

I thought I would just put an idea out for any of you in Harris, who have been waiting since around that time. I hope this info helps someone.
I look forward to becoming a regular contributor.

Congrats there coog. Too bad about the do-over. I mailed mine the same day, had a do-over on the photos taken at Carter's Country but mine is in the mail. Status changed this past Sat to license issued so maybe today.

Thanks for the welcome wishes. I'm sure you'll be in business there soon, Myron. My father-in-law said his was exactly one week from the posting of "license issued." That's exactly how long mine took as well from the posting.

The wait times I'm seeing from application sent to plasic in hand are blowing me away. I sent my app in on the 28th of June and the status on the DPS site says Application complete Blah blah. My total wait time was less than 10 weeks. I lived in harris, Travis and Hemphill counties over the checked years. I have no idea why it was done so fast.

Hi jimeple! Welcome to the forum! Welcome!

New procedures and additional staffing is what is speeding up the process. We first learned of these things back in July, but it was only rumor then and it seemed to good to be true. Apparently the rumors were thank goodness!
