I haven't looked into the specifics, but talked to a few federal agents (one FBI and two ATF) a couple years ago and they all said it wasn't a good idea. They said many of the TSA folks and local police, even the state police were a bit militant about people carrying weapons in their state.

You'll be somewhat ok on the knife, but IIRC it's over the limit for any Federal property i.e. museums, parks, etc. Just give it all up, carry a Surefire or a tac pen, and hope for the best. BTW, I've spent a lot of time in the DC area over the last five years and it just ain't worth the hassle. I used to usually have the smallest Swiss Army knife with me. Had problems at the Liberty Bell, had to leave it w/ security at the National Aquarium. Didn't even try at the Library of Congress (more detectors).

Sorry, but it is what it is in the capital of the free world. :confused5

Self-defense and the tools for it are largely against the law in Maryland.

From what I found you can carry a Pen Knife (a folding knife) of any size without problem in Maryland. you can also carry Mace with you but you cant have it for the use in a crime (huh?)

the only problem I might have will be getting it on my Checked luggage but I've never had a problem before, even when going to Boston
