Interstate Travel With A Firearm
While transporting a firearm through a restrictive state such as New York in accordance with Sec. 926A, Title 18, U.S. Code, the gun being unloaded and stored in the trunk of an automobile with ammunition kept separate, is it legal to move the firearm from the vehicle into a motel room and back?

legally I cannot answer your question....personally, I would take it with me just to avoid it possibly being stolen and introduced to the streets. In the old days I would say just put it in the hotel room safe, but as of late I have noticed a lack of safes in newer hotels.
