air rifle import question

Post by biggyin »

I am now a legal alien residing here in Texas. In my pervious life in the UK I owned (and still have) an air arms TX200 in .177. It it sub 12ft/lb with a muzzle velocity of 600 ft per sec.

My question is how easy would it be for me to bring this air rifle back to the states? Does anyone have any experience in this? The rifle in wasted back in the UK and it is a real pain to try and sell them now under UK law.

Any help would be great!

Just a wild guess, but I bet you are going to have a lot more trouble getting it out of the UK than getting into the US.

Just a suggestion, but you can purchase a new Crosman 760 .177 pump pellet rifle for $35 at Academy Sports. It is a 600fps gun as well. I'm sure Wal-Mart sells them for around the same price. If you want to spend slightly more, you can get a Crosman Quest 1000 .177 rifle for $84 at MidwayUSA.com, capable of 1000fps. Shop around locally, and you can find a decent one for far less than you would pay importing your rifle from the UK, and without any headaches.

EDIT TO ADD: After posting my response, I Googled your TX200, and see that it is a much nicer rifle than what I had suggested...However, my comment about costs and headaches associated with exporting from the UK, then importing into the U.S. still stands. It will be expensive, and a bureaucratic paperwork nightmare.

If pdubyoo's suggestion is not palatable to you, and it's an air rifle you believe is worth the extra time and money to import it into the U.S. to you, my best suggestion would be to call a U.S. Customs Broker, and visit with them.

They can tell you of the transport costs, import fees and duties. They are able to handle all import documentation for you.

They will be listed in the yellow pages of the telephone book. I know DFW has about 100 and Houston 200 Customs Brokers, as both are international ports of entry. But I'm sure there are several in other larger Texas cities.

If you need assistance in finding listings for them, please let me know. Good luck to you.
