As we've observed in our wanderings, open carry is not the norm even where it's legal. It's not surprising that good Kaliforinans would go berserk when they saw a guy wearing a gun but not when they see a guy holding hands with another er,...uh, excuse me, I digress.

One thing is a sure bet, you don't want to get caught anywhere on the left coast with your CC and your Texas CHL. Our beloved Texas CHL is neither welcome nor honored anywhere in the three Pacific coast states.

Yeah, the big thing is to open carry in California, you have to have the gun unloaded and no ammo attached to the gun. You can carry the magazines loaded though.

I think these are few and far between. You are still gonna get checked a lot and probably a lot of call of 'man with a gun' to the police. Luckily the police are up to snuff on the law and follow it instead of hassling them.

Very interesting story . I had no idea that you could open carry (unloaded) in California .

As a side not , the lady that called the police was correct in saying magazine instead of clip .

they claimed the guy who showed up at the Obama appearance with an AR was carrying an "Automatic Weapon "

The liberal media bias is incredible ... Facts aside, lets make it sound better

Correct so far...

Nope, this is where it goes astray. Even in cases where police know that unloaded open carry ("UOC", as they call it) is legal, and they know the specific law that authorizes them to verify that the weapon is unloaded, there have been cases where UOCers have been unlawfully detained and further searched, way beyond the limits of the law. There are multiple cases and appeals pending because of extra-legal searches and detentions.

The California gun rights activists are walking on the sharp edge of the law. They get cut now and then. A little blood is the price of freedom.

I'll be in California again next week and will be "pushing this" when I am there.

If you hear about some folks in Palo Alto/mountain view open carrying, look for my ugly mug.

Make sure it is unloaded and the ammo seperate. And, start saving your bail money. (j/k) ;-)

I meant in this case. I am sure there are departments that push the limits, even beyond what's legal. There are those everywhere (like GVPD and the mall issue.)

Doesn't matter since it is unlicensed and unloaded open carry, anyone who can legally own can carry. Only thing is make sure you don't take an over 10 round magazine into the state or you can be arrested for importation. See http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/california.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Edit to add: More info on Open Carry in CA http://www.californiaopencarry.org/Cali ... nCarry.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So let me see if I got this straight (pardon the pun)...

If I want to open carry, I can do so, if the gun is unloaded, ammo separate from the gun at the time of carry...Ok, got that down right...

But if I really want to disguise my intentions, I need to be holding someones hand at the same time, and if they are carrying in the same manner, we'll not be as harrassed???

Keith??? Wanna hold hands??? "rlol" :smilelol5: :thumbs2: :biggrinjester: :cheers2: :thewave :anamatedbanana
