Ruger LCP.380
Has anyone bought one of these yet? If so do you have any opinions: pro's/con's. I am thinking that is going to be my next gun purchase but I don't want another hand eater like the Kel-Tec P-11. I am trying to upgrade from my Kel-Tec P-32 and this Ruger is the only thing I have spotted that is the size I want for a daily carry. It is hard for me to conceal anything bigger. I have tried oh so many types of holsters, belly bands, fanny packs etc. Just can't seem to be able to settle on anything that would hold a bigger gun. I want to be armed and also comfortable. I am 5' 119lb female. Just thought I would toss that in there for general info on my problems finding a way to carry larger. I also read range reports on the Rohrbaugh 9 a tiny gun as well but it said it was hard to clean and got dirty fast so decided I didn't want that one.

My Mother has an LCP. She is 79, likes it, & carries it. She is a reall Southern belle & will pocket carry it & cover it w/ a hankie.
Recoil is not an issue for her. I have shot it too.
Range report. For that tiny a shooter it is good. Mom has no trouble holding the 8 ring at 7yds. If I start at 3 & back up every 3-5 shots I dont have any trouble holding the 7 ring at 25yds. It will shoot consistant & that is what is important.
Hope this helps.

Re: Ruger LCP.380
I have had the KelTec P3AT, LCP and the Taurus TCP....
The LCP is better than the KT. All three will go bang all the time, but the KT plastic is rough and cheaper feeling. The LCP has an internal extractor vs the external on the KT. The LCP also has a manual slide lock. It will not automatically lock back, but the KT does not have one at all. I consider the TCP better than both myself. It has all the positive things of the LCP PLUS a slide lock that locks back automatically. PLUS, it is cheaper than the LCP and comes with a neat little external carry holster for your belt. Recoil is less on the LCP than on the KT, but a little more to same on TCP.

Re: Ruger LCP.380
I have one.
Pros:
Light
Easy to conceal
Accurate for a pocket gun
Mine has been reliable with various ammo types
Cons:
Light, lots of recoil
Ammo is expensive and not the best self-defense round
Sights aren't the greatest, but are ok for a pocket gun

Re: Ruger LCP.380
Respectfully disagree. On our dept qualification days, there is consistently an issue with Kel Tecs. I would not trust me life to one under any circumstance. Spend the additional money and get the Ruger LCP or if you really want some nice guns the Kahr P380 or Sig p238.wgoforth wrote:I have had the KelTec P3AT, LCP and the Taurus TCP....

The Kahr P380:

The Sig P238:

Both of these guns offer real sights. These can be upgraded to like an XS big dot, or tritium night sights. The quality on these two weapons is far higher than the original 3 mentioned in the post but it comes at a price. Either of these pistols run between $500-$600 retail. At a minimum if I didn't have a big budget I would pick up a Ruger LCP. If you can spend some more go sig or Khar. It's your life after all.
PS - my gf is 5-00, 105lbs and she can conceal a Kahr P380 pretty easily.

Re: Ruger LCP.380
I know the others are better. But the P3AT served people for years before the others came out, including many LEO's I know as their BUG. I never had a minutes problems other than being painful to shoot more than a few rounds. On the sights, I agree... however remember these are get-off-me guns. You will likely point and shoot rather than aim, for most self defense scenerios are under 12 ft, majority under 9 ft. Have you tried the TCP, pretty good actually. The 238 is a good gun, but sig is having numerous issues with that one, scan the sig forum for them. Also, the sig has more controls and lines to snag from a pocket carry. Kahr is good, has had some problems as well. As for me, I just have a personal scruple about buying a gun from Jason Moon.

Re: Ruger LCP.380
I am delighted with my new LCP. Only had a chance to put 30 rounds of 90 grain Gold Dot hollow points through it after cleaning, using two mags, but they fired flawlessly, and the sights (tiny) were right on at 3 yards.
I spent 5 rounds shooting at a piece of paper on a hill 25 yards away, and kicked it into the air with 3 of those. I was amazed.
It glides out of my pocket smoothly. Great gun so far and I trust Ruger's robustness.
The only other .380 I even considered was the Kahr. I have a K40 and CW40 that have been flawless. But the Ruger just had everything I was looking for for about half the money.
Did I mention I was delighted with it?

Re: Ruger LCP.380
Kahr P380 if you can afford it, LCP if you can't. I have both and the Kahr is more accurate, has less recoil, and has much better sights (probably accounts for the accuracy) than the LCP. That said, the LCP is adequate in those areas and is just slightly more concealable for reasons I haven't quite figured out yet. Perhaps it's the blockiness if the P380 that causes it to print slightly more in the pocket. BTW, the finger extension mag and a Hogue Handall Jr slip-on grip will go miles towards making the LCP more comfotable to shoot.

A small drop of white model paint on front BUMP of a site on the LCP will dramatically improve your accuracy. You can SEE the front sight. 1 1/2 inch group at 7 yards with just sights.
And I love my LCP.

I've made it a habit to not even use the sigh..I mean bump.
I am leaning toward getting a Crimson Trace on mine though.

I had the ArmaLaser on mine and took it off once I put that drop on the bump. I'll go shot for shot with anyone at 7 yards. It is an accurate bugger when you can see the bump.

Re: Ruger LCP.380
I have the LCP and really like the gun. It is very concealable and accurate. However the ammunition is hard to find and very expensive. The gun has never pinched me and I have had no FTF with over 500 rounds through it of various kinds. It does have a strong kick and since it is very thin you need a strong hand to control it. It also has a tight spring, so racking it can be a challenge for many ladies.
My wife who is 5'8" hated it. She really liked how small it was, but it as not the right gun for her. It was so thin that she had a hard time holding it when it kicked. She wanted something that had the same overall size, but had a slightly thicker grip. She settled on the Beretta TomCat. It has a tip up barrel so you don't need to rack it to load or unload it. It has just a little more weight, but it feels great. It also hold 7 + 1, so one extra round. I would seriously look into it. She has a Uncle Mikes pocket holster and a Galco tuckable IWB holster. She LOVES this gun.
