spotted twice wearing tucked holster
So twice in the last two weeks I've been spotted wearing my Crossbreed Supertuck with a tucked shirt. Both times were by "gun people", one of whom I know is a member of this forum. And both asked "so how do you like your Crossbreed?" as if asking "so how do you like your Toyota?". Didn't bother me at all. Both instances were private conversations with no one else around. I don't think either person could see a gun or even an outline of a gun (doubt either knew which gun I was carrying). But those black metal belt clips with the cross shape are a dead give away to those "in the know."
I doubt the average Joe has a clue what lies behind the black metal belt clips with the cross shape, but if "gun people" can spot them so easily, then others who I don't want to know (police, bad guys) might learn to spot them as well.
I've had middling luck with the velcro clips (do have a velcro strip stitched inside my Beltman belt for this purpose), but prefer the regular clips. Wondering if the differently colored clips offered by Comp Tac might be worth the investment? Brown for brown belts, black for black belts, etc. Or perhaps a C clip or J clip (haven't had much luck with these either the few times I've used them).
Anyway, probably don't need to do anything different. But being "outed" twice in two weeks gave me pause to consider options.
Thoughts?

Might see if you can replace the standard holster clips with the M-TAC polymer clips from Comp-Tac. Not sure if it works, but I thought the same thing about the crosses on the clips and being outed to those who know whats up. I will be able to tell you once my tax return comes though

The J clips can still be spotted but not nearly as easy. They only come up about a eighth of an inch or so at the bottom of the belt. They are black so I would think a black or very dark brown belt would camo them best.

Yep. They can still be spotted. I took my wife out to eat a couple of weeks back and had to carry tucked in...Black pants, gray shirt, black belt, Brown clips.03Lightningrocks wrote:The J clips can still be spotted but not nearly as easy. Or she knew what they were for and was trying to figure out why you had brown ones!
Or more likely was trying to decide if she could figure out what gun you were carrying!

Re: spotted twice wearing tucked holster
anyone used the Comp Tac C clips? I actually have a set of J clips and just don't like the way they work (puts weight of gun/holster on your pants and not on your belt - works OK for jeans, but not so much for slacks. Usually if I"m tucking, I'm wearing slacks).
Do the C clips fit the belt well? easy to get on/off? Putting on a holster in a tucked configuration is a struggle to begin with, don't want to add to the problems with clips that are a pain to use).

I'm sorry...actually the C-Clips are what I have. (Still mainlining coffee, so not totally woke up yet.) I haven't tried the J clips because I don't want the weight riding on my pants.austinrealtor wrote:anyone used the Comp Tac C clips?

I use the C clips with both an XD45c and Defender in Mtac's, no problem.

I've just used the v-clips with good results.

I have all 3 styles for my M-Tac holster (regular, "C", and Velcro). My first set that I ordered with M-Tac was "C" clip. They were pretty nice, but yes a PITA to put on compared to regular. You have to loop belt through before or while putting belt on and this takes considerably longer than just using the regular clips. Either way, the can still be seen with tucked in shirt. I found possibly even more so since they drew attention to objects that differ from normal belt loops.
This is one reason I joined you in adding the LCP for pocket carry to my library.
In terms of LEO's noticing, certainly most should know. Most departments require their officers to carry off duty and most that carry 24x7 will want the most comfortable. The Crossbreed, Comp-Tac, and M-Tac like holsters are some of the most comfortable out there... They will have at least considered them in their search for comfort. Even retired officers often carry many, many years after retirement. Same applies - comfort & concealment.
Velcro was an even more of a pain for me than the C clips, but I'm sure it was because I tried to rig my existing belt with velcro adhesive! By the way, both my C clip and regular clips are made for 1.25" belts.

I've been thinking of getting some different clips for my two Crossbreed SuperTucks as well....austinrealtor is right that the "cross" on the black clips are a dead giveaway to anyone "in the know." Right now I deal with that by always wearing a loose shirt or jacket that covers my belt.

I've carried my XD45 in an MTAC with the C clips for almost three years now - no problema!

Re: spotted twice wearing tucked holster
I haven't seen the J clips in brown... interesting. Maybe it is because I don't carry heavy guns, but I have yet to have any issues with the pulling down on my pants. I don't see how it can happen if your wearing the rig properly. My belt is still going around the rig and holding it in place.timdsmith72 wrote:Yep. They can still be spotted. The lady at the front that asks how many in your party....can never remember what they're called...stared at the brown clips for what seemed like forever and then kept looking back...I assume she never figured out what they were for, but she sure noticed them.
I have to say I am stunned at how many posters on here have experiences with seeing others carrying and even have them noticing J clips, which most folks don't buy. And then the extra rarity of spotting them in brown from across a restaurant... Wow!!! I have yet been able to out anyone. I had a suspect because he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt over a shirt outfit and held his hand out like he was about to draw... but I just never spot any of these things.
Give the J clips a try. You will find that the rumor is somewhat over exaggerated and I assure you they are less visible than full clips. Common sense tells us they have to be less visible.

I use the C-clips with my MTAC and XD.45 with no problem. They fit the belt great and I can put the holster on and take it off without removing the belt. I have had no problems with them.
Re: spotted twice wearing tucked holster
I've got the Comp-TAC C-clips on my Crossbreed, and a Beltman belt. The clips are quite snug around the belt, and I've been happy with it this way.RiverRat wrote:I use the C clips with both an XD45c and Defender in Mtac's, no problem.
