It was sounding like you need to carry 24/7 now...

Post by dubya »

Still bad out there but not as bad. Looked bad this morning when it was reported a man walking his dog outside his north Dallas apartment was shot and killed.

It wasn't little Johnny out walking his Chihuahua; It was Rotten Edgar the Burglar and his Pit Bull! Random crimes do happen but this wasn't one. Victims often know the perps...

Most of the reports state "The dog was unharmed." ;-)

However, I probably will start carrying when I walk Rambo at night now...

2 suspects knew man killed in Far North Dallas shooting, police say
02:15 PM CDT on Thursday, March 25, 2010 The Dallas Morning News

A 21-year-old North Dallas resident who was killed while walking his dog this morning apparently was a home burglar who ran afoul of his criminal accomplices, police said.

Edgar Eduardovich Azaryan was walking his pit bull just after midnight when he was shot in the parking lot of his apartment complex in the 5900 block of Arapaho Road.

One less criminal and an unhurt dog. Could be worse. I bet the "pit bull" was really a chocolate lab.

Yep. Any time I start thinking to myself, "Maybe you're being paranoid carrying all the time," all I have to do is turn on the news and there's yet another case of violent crime. Remember the case last year where the lady was shot in the face in the parking lot of the NorthPark mall? That's not what I consider a "bad part of town". Just goes to show you never know when you'll need to defend yourself.

Yes, while this was not an innocent victim any of us could have walked into this (assuming we were out at Midnight or this happened earlier) and being a witness would need to react. I doubt these guys would have just ignored someone who happened to be standing in the wrong place. You never know who's around you; do you? Even with situational awareness you can't always keep everyone a safe distance off in urban environments.

When I first got my CHL in Oregon many years ago.. I was questioned (interrogated more like it) by two female co workers, who felt profoundly that a privet citizen carrying a handgun concealed was unneeded as that was the job of the police.
The discusshion went from rights of gun owners to state laws that allowed it meaning it was the will of the people, to the lack of police coverage, how when you need an officer in seconds they are only minutes away... to a final statement . “Ladies, The problem with random crime is, it is very random… I’d be happy to leave my weapon at home, just as soon as you can tell me where the murders, rapists and armed robbers will be today? I will avoid those locations and thus have no need for my concealed hand gun… I’ll expect that list on my desk before I depart for the day,, Thanks.”

Seems I never got that list…… And I had two of my cadets attacked that year on campus.
Before I left OSU, many of my seniors and the eligible juniors had a CHL..

Amen brother!

Every time I am more than arms reach from my weapon, I start to think, "Will this be the next Luby's moment or kick burglery etc?" I have reached the point where I feel odd being unarmed.....Paranoid :)

I used to get a funny feeling on vacation when I left my cellphone behind....I'd do a pat check to see if it was there....no more. Now the check is for the gun. Felt real naked in Europe. My wife doesn't like it sitting on the table next to me when I watch tv...so I just keep it on and concealed. For some reason it doesn't seem to bother her on the night stand or out in public like the theater, parking garages etc???

As for the bad part of town....that is the place where I can't carry a gun by law. :banghead:

I won't quote nephew so that his comments will no longer be here after his post is removed. but he sounds very bitter about a post that is over 6 years old, simply reporting an incident that occurred where the evidence points to the "victim" being a criminal. No one like to lose family members, but if they are involved in the criminal world, it very seldom ends well for them. It is obvious, from nephew's post that socially unacceptable behavior tends to run in the family, and that intelligent conversation, was not a normal part of their interactions with others.

Moderators please remove his post as soon as possible. You may also remove this one if you feel I have stepped over the line. :tiphat:

I noticed that he didn't refute any accusations. Must be a leftist because it was all about feelings and sensitivity.

The link in the OP is dead (for me anyway) but here's a new one: http://www.dallasnews.com/news/news/201 ... glary-7012

Tough to lose anyone, but Uncle Edgar could have easily avoided this type of situation by not consorting with criminals.
