I "pulled the trigger" on a used pistol :)

Post by gtrman66 »

I finally did it. I've had my CHL for a month. I found a good deal on a used Taurus Millenium PT140, .40 S&W, 10+1. I put 130 rounds through it trouble free. I saved 20 rounds for the next time. I went to Winchester in FW right after I bought it FTF. I got it and 50 rounds for $300. I bought 100 WWB rounds and had a great time. I also bought an Uncle Mikes IWB holster, small cleaning kit and small case (it didn't come with the case or security keys).

I carried it home from the range in the holster unloaded... baby steps.

I have it locked in the center compartment of my tool box until I scrape up $100 for a mini safe.

Now I have to tell the wife at some point. I need to get a cheap revolver (.22) for my daughter to make it easier on me. I got my CHL with the pretext I was going to take my daughter to the range. She just happens to love old .22 revolvers. Next time Academy puts the Heritage on sale for $99, I'm getting one.

Sounds good. I suggest meeting up with some of our regular members that live in the "plex" to get some ideas on how to carry. Their significant others may be more successful in explaining the concept to your wife than you. My GF's explanation of why I carry was simple, and she got it once, and understood that is what I do. Now she is wanting a CHL. Takes time with the ladies...sometimes they have all sorts of brainwashing about guns in the house with children and what not. It can be deprogrammed with time.

Congratulations. You can get a small "Stack-On" safe from places like Academy for $20-30. These can be drilled/bolted down and offer a bit more security than the toolbox. Also, for a good priced OWB holster, check out the Don Hume JIT slide holsters, they keep the pistol nice and high:

Congrats on the plastic and the pistol!

A couple of other members from the DFW area have gotten together a couple of times to shoot. You are welcome to join us. No plans have been made so far this month.

It went well with the wife. I took her out to the garage without the kids and was straightforward. I explained where I got the money (I knew that would come up). I had sold some Harley parts, guitar stuff and a couple tool boxes recently.

She even agreed to go to the range. :hurry:

Carried through Wal Mart for about 45 minutes. Bought 250 rounds of Remmington .40 S&W for $69 ($75 w/tax) and carried this morning on a taco run for breakfast. While at Fuzzy's Tacos, saw 3 separate shifts of Arlington PD come and go. Never once did I feel nervous or overly-occupied with carrying. Not too bad. I am getting used to the idea a lot faster than I expected.
