Can I legally shoot a shotgun here?

I have a friend who is very worried for reasons I can't discuss on here. She has called the police and police reports have been filed but she wants to borrow my shotgun and wants me to help her train with it. She works FULL time and has 3 kids and doesn't have time to go to my place or a range.

So my question to y'all is can we legally practice shooting at her house. She lives a couple miles outside the Lufkin city limits in a little subdivision. It has a few trailers but there is a safe direction to shoot at her house that is a good ways away from any other houses with a lot of trees in between. I know where we will be shooting is 100% safe for shotguns but I am trying to find out if its legal.

Should I call the local sheriffs office and ask?

I am gonna guess no and I am sure somebody with more knowledge will show up and back that up.

She just got off the phone with the sheriffs office and they said it was fine to practice in a safe manner.

Now my thoughts are, I should have called to make sure lol
