Holster review with photos

Post by progun47 »

I wanted to show off my new holster, and give a review on it. The rig was made by John Railston at 5 Shot Leather http://www.5shotleather.com .
I ask him to make his Uncle Lou holster in a tuckable model, which he had never done before. The rig is made from burgundy shark skin, and the photos do not do it justice, it came out like a work of art. The boning is superb; and the retention of the weapon is great. I have had the rig now for 2 weeks and while it was comfortable from the start, each day it gets better as the wings of the holster and mag carrier form to my body. The holster and mag carrier were flat when they arrived so it took a few days to start breaking it in to my shape.
John has customer service high on his priority list; he kept me informed on the progress of the rig at least once a week and sometimes daily. He always replied to my questions within one day, and was great to talk to on the phone. For anyone wanting a truly custom holster, I highly recommend talking to John; you will not be disappointed in either his work or his manners.
Now to the photos. The thumbnails are clickable.

That looks very nice. Would it be out of line to ask what the whole package cost you?

Nice Kimber too. I have the Pro version.

Beautiful rig and thanks for the review of it. Is the mag holder comfortable? It is a bit larger than most I have seen. Take care.

The mag holder is getting better daily, as I said both were stiff and flat at first, but after a few days they are getting broken in well.

Just to give a little more info, I have found that putting the holster/mag carrier on the pants before you put on your pants makes things much easier.
It takes a little practice to get your shirt tucked in but after it's done everything just disappears, a friend that knows that i carry never knew i was wearing the rig the first time I had it on, he ask when he could see the new holster and was completely supprised whie I pulled out my shirt to show it to him.

This reminds me of something I try to tell every new carrier that wants a high quality carry rig. "They take time to break in". Sometimes that is more than a few days. The only reason I am able to own & wear a Mitch Rosen belt & have one of his holsters is that someone would not do the work of breaking them in. The mag carrier took longer than the holster & belt. It is a double & the front one is still a little too tight when I get it on. (It will be a WHILE before I get it on again.  ) Never have to worry about it falling out. They are hard to get on at first. They are worth the work & effort after the break in. You young guys save your money, buy quality work whether leather or kydex, & carry will be BOTH comfortable & comforting. You do not have to sit & walk around all day being poked.
My .02 & some think it worth about half that much.
