Deployment Commemorative XD arrived

Post by E.Marquez »

After 11 LONG months.. We finally received our shipment of custom engraved Springfield XD's Custom commemoratives commissioned to allow each soldier in the 2nd Battalion 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1ST CAV DIV a chance at something good to come from doing the job...something they could take home,, use in a verity of ways, from plinking to daily carry.

.
.
.

Lady's and Gentlemen I give you. The newest gun in my safe (and new daily carry, once it fires 1000 rds with no malfunction)
Lancer 39 side.jpg
Lancer 39 Top.jpg
Lancer Crest.jpg
XD .45 Compact, bi tone finish...... This one, is mine, Lancer 39...

The engraving is very nice, deeper then other makers versions I've seen for custom shop engraving (para ord for one, DPS for another)

We went with Springfield for a few reasons,,, one I like the gun line up.. Two,, they let us mix and match within the order. Everyone could pick there own model in the XD line, and extras, any finish combo, any cal.

We had many delays, excuses, failed deadlines.... and because of that many canceled there orders... (it would seem Springfield does not care.. they sell all they can produce,, our little 38 guns was not a big deal)

BUT they did come though. I have two of them,,, Pictures and a story about the second one and the man who will call it his own, will be posted here after it is presented..

That's a really nice program offered to fix you guys up with the custom handguns. I have a buddy from another forum that just finished his (second?) tour in Afghanistan as an Airborne chopper gunner. He was really excited to get home in May and handle his new custom engraved Sig P250.

Welcome home and congrats on the new custom pistol. Will it find itself in a glass display case or a holster?

Holster.... once it shoots 1000 rounds consecutive without malfunction. thats my personal standard prior to using it as a carry gun...... The good news is... when motivated, that only takes me a trip or two to the range (or my back yard if short range course of fire is all I'm looking to do)

I don't own safe queens,,, well there is one.... but I want to sell it to someone who can appreciate for what it is..... then I'll use those funds to buy another shooter :smilelol5:

They all do to some extent. kimber, Springfield, Smith&Wesson, Para Ord, SIG, etc , etc..

I went with Springfield MOSTLY because they would allow our group to choose any option any cal in the XD line up AND we got 22 characters of personalized text plus the Unit crest ..... All the others were a pick your ONE model, one image, one common line of text.

My only beef with Springfield was the HUGE delay..., after delay. In hind sight, it's common, known in the firearms industry, and I should have expected it. But when your TOLD otherwise,,, you have expectations, you make announcements and plans.... Which are not fulfilled. .. Thats not the way I work.
If they had just told me upfront.. This is a 10-12 month order to production to shipment process.... I would have had as many or more orders, maybe different people,,, but we lost a lot, due to the delays.

Anyway.. Great gun, looks good.. Going shooting tomorrow... :patriot:

Sorry for the INTERNET slow downs you may have been feeing this morning... Thats my fault....
Been all over the NET today ordering stuff for the new XD.. SuperTuck and COMPTAC holsters on the way, still looking for an OWB I want. 3 new MAGS in the cart.... :hurry:
Tiring to decide on sending it back to Springfield for night sites and trigger work....or choose a more local option..... Anyone know of a trustworthy smith in CENTEX for sight install? The slide is very important to me,,, so mistakes or Oops can not happen...... For that reason alone I may send it to SA.. if they screw something up,, they can replace the slide....as they engraved it to start with..... :headscratch Simple questions..hard decision.......

Ahhhh.....

A pistol with .01 caliber for each year of your life. A very poetic disposition.

Alex Hamilton...He is here is San Antonio. He did all the work to my SA 1911 and it looks shoots and feels GREAT. Very pro Military. He knows his stuff too. He writes the "Pistolsmithing" article for American Handgunner.

Here is his website... http://www.tenring.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

He does have a 3-4 month wait list but if you want it done right and with care he is the man!

As of round 750, happy to say all is well.

Thus ends the basic firing test...using FMj ammo.
Next up, JHP for the next 200 rounds.. With a final stage of 60 rounds CorBon .45 ACP Pow'Rball.. If all goes well.. then we will be at 1010 rounds,,,, and a new carry gun will be on hand. :hurry:
