Recent Experience with Independence Ammo?

Post by Napier »

Howdy to all. Does anyone have any recent experience, good or bad, with Independence ammo? I ask because WriggleyAmmo has cases of a thousand .380 ACP on sale for $300. Googling it shows mixed reactions up until about 2007, with no current mentions. Thanks for your opinions!

It's made by CCI. Ive shot it. It's fine target ammo. The last batch I had, the brass was actually stamped CCI Blazer. They say it's made by Federal, but Federal and CCI are both owned by ATK now.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Flb. BTW, I notice that domestic .380 is loosening up. Some online vendors have lots of Winchester whitebox, Federal American Eagle and Remington UMC. Just bought some of the latter two but always on the lookout for mo' cheap and good.

Willie, thanks for your advice, nasty we do not need! Sounds like the smoky flaming Aguila 380 I still have in the back of the closet because I hate to clean up after it. I found and bought a box of Independence and plan to shoot it up tomorrow in a couple of pistols. I'll report back one way or t'other. Federal American Eagle is now almost as cheap per case, and I know that works well.

I have a couple boxes of .45 and have shot a couple boxes of it. it goes bang and is a little dirty. the goes bang part is the most important to me and since my guns get cleaned after every range visit anyway dirty is of no concern for plinker ammo

Thanks to everyone for responding. My experience today was not good. I shot a box of Independence .380 ball through a Taurus TCP (the "P" stands for "picky"), a Ruger LCP and a Kel-Tec P3-AT. I had three faiures-to-extract in the Taurus, two in the Ruger and one in the Kel-Tec. I have never had an FTE with any ammo in any of those pistols before. And that includes some relatively junky stuff like Fiocchi and Aquila (for a long time that was all I could find). I had no FTF's. It was not terribly dirty like Russian ammo, but it was dirty like Aquila, enough to be obnoxious when cleaning. Just to be sure it was the ammo I fired enough Fiocchi and Aquila through all of them to be sure it wasn't the pistols FTEing or me limp wristing. Then I started on a box of Speer Lawman, also made by CCI, and quit on the first FTE. Next time out I'll shoot through my Bersa, which seems to eat anything, and report back. So if you're having good luck in calibres other than .380, great. But I wouldn't recommend the .380 to anybody.
