Kimber Magazines

Post by USA1 »

I notice a lot of people have a Kimber magazine in their Kimbers.
I love the way they fit flush, but they only hold 7 rounds and I've heard that they are not of the highest quality.

Is this what most of you use while carrying?
Have you experienced any reliability issues with them?

I have one for my Officer and it works ok except it usually won't hold the slide back after the last round. I just assumed it was a difference between the Colt and the Kimber, the gun I mean.

I use only Wilson Combat mags in my .45's and would use them in my 9pm BHP and EMP if they made them (which they don't).

There's a number of good reliable magazines on the market for 1911 style pistols unfortunately, Kimber mags aren't one of them. The BEST mags of all are made right here in the Great State of Texas they are Tripp Cobra Mags they cost more but are worth it. Next are three that are tied for second place (a close tie and a close second) McCormick, Wilson, and MecGar close on the heels of the second place three are Metalform. Any of those five brands or mags made by them and branded something else will give you exemplary service. Anything else is just a training aid for malfunction drills.

I have a Wilson that didn't start out so good. The spring wasn't man enough to push the last round up. Wilson sent me a new spring and it's been fine since. It still bothers me a little that they let a faulty spring get out. The Colt mags that I've always had for it have always been perfect.

I have 4 different mags for my Springfield 1911 Ultra Compact. 2 Wilson Combat, 1 Kimber, 1 McCormick. All have performed flawlessly with both FMJ and JHP ammo.

I have 3 Kimber mags for my stainless UC II, and they work just fine. Whenever I get around to replacing them though, I will probably use Cobra Mags, simply because the OEM stainless magazines for the Ultra are not rebuildable. At least not easily so.

I have an 8 round Kimber mag I bought to use in my Rock Island 1911-A1.

The card from the package says, PN# 1000089

I haven't used it yet, so I don't know how well it works. It's at the gunsmith with my RIA which is getting a hammer bob & a trigger job.

Edit: Here's a link to the 8 rounder: http://www.kimberamerica.com/shop/product.php?xProd=178" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My Pro came with an 8-round Kim-Pro Tac-Mag that fits flush.

Once I have a chance to run it and my Wilsons at the range, I may look into the low profile baseplate for the Wilson 47D.

While I've never had any problems with my Kimber Mags.

I bought and primarily use Wilson Combat mags.

I feel Wilson's are better quality.

Ultra CDP II, to which I added Crimson Trace Lasergrips in "burlwood."

I use the KimPro Tac-Mags. They're Kimber's higher-end magazines, not the ones that come with the pistols in most cases. (Though I have had no problems with the one that came with my pistol either.

The flush fitting Kimber mags hold 7 rounds for the small frames and 8 rounds for the full sized frames.
I have heard of problems with the standard Kimber mags in some Kimber pistols. I have NOT heard of any problems with the KimPro Tac-Mags.
And the 8-round mag will fit in the smaller guns, but it sticks out the bottom.
