SWAT raid on gun owner in CA
The most ominous read I've had since the confiscations in New Orleans:
http://www.fiftycal.org/alerts/060922/
"LA Gun Task Force Serves another Search Warrant
The LA County Gun Task Force has served another search warrant on the home of another member of the fifty caliber community. On Monday September 18th, eighteen police cars swarmed the neighborhood where the FCSA member lives and served a search warrant signed by Judge Steven Kleifield of the LA County Superior Court. The officers were at the residence for several hours and confiscated all semi-automatic firearms belonging to the victim.
The probable cause for issuing the search warrant was not available in the body of the affidavit so the reason for the search is unknown at this time. It should be noted the LA Gun Task Force used "High Risk" entry tactics by sending a SWAT Entry team to make the initial entry into the victim's residence. Gun owners in LA County need to be prepared to expect these kinds of entry tactics and respond to commands from any officers if you are contacted.
FCI wants everyone to be aware that the LA County Gun Task Force is lead by agents from BATFE; LAPD and LASO. They appear to have focused their attention on members of the fifty caliber community and are aggressively trying to arrest law abiding citizens for just being "Gun Owners".
In the situation that occurred this past Monday the victim had his entire firearms collection seized and he was told charges are going to be filed because he had in his possession linked ammunition in quantities of more than 10 rounds of ammunition at a time. This has been interpreted as a violation of the "High Capacity Magazine" portion of the Assault Weapons Act in CA. The victim owns a Semi-auto M2; a semi-auto M3 and a 30 caliber semi-auto 1919
Everyone living in California needs to pay attention to what is happening in Los Angeles. This can happen to you simply because someone who knows about your firearms calls the LA Gun Task Force and gives them information they interpret as a violation of the Draconian Gun Laws they have been passing for the last five years.
We are asking everyone to review what you have in your gun safe or workshop. Take the time to find out what is against the law and what is not. Remember, our first reported incident was over a flash hider on an M-1A and some armor piercing projectiles. Don't let this happen to YOU.
We are not able to identify the person involved in the incident on Monday or give you any more info about the circumstances about what occurred at this time. We will advise and update as we can.

Looks like the gun owner violated a technicality of California's state "AWB" by linking more than 10 rounds together.

Or when he bought the ammunition he forgot to "unlink" and make the strings 9 or less rounds...
Sounds to me like they (lawful authority) had a [expletive deleted] for this guy for a while...
But instead it appears they got a judge, got a warrant which certain parts of it are unavailable for review, got their tac guys together, notified the media, and instead of just knocking to make a "courtesy call", made a full breach on a citizen with zero-prior record to warrant such an intrusion...
Like Tex said, I wish we had more info, but this does not pass the smell test...
You know, I bet I could buy some .50 cal stuff "linked" from Cheaper than Dirt...thats probably where the guy purchased it...Who knows...Lots of surplus companies out there...
Lesson learned if you live in California...Buy it loose...
Even then I bet you still get a visit...

Kleifield is a real judge in Los Angeles County allright: http://www.metnews.com/articles/assi101602.htm.
Beyond that, I can't find any mention of this on Newsmax, Google or on JPFO's site.

See this is where I tend to draw the line...
Someone floats a story out there, and it is designed to illicite the exact reaction it is intended to do...
I would imagine that everyone's knee-jerk reaction is to be outraged, and rightfully so...I know I wouldn't want one of my friends here to have to endure this kind of blatant ...
But when we try to validate the incident, not that we initially didn't believe it, it is more of an information hunt...Thats the way most of these go...
From my perspective, it just seems inconcievable that things like this happen the way they do...
If it is the intent of the action taken is to publically expose someone who may, or may not be doing something illegal, and the methods employed are to get others in the same predicament to get their act together, then I don't see how making the information about this so hard to access...
Unless its still all under investigation, or they just like busting down peoples doors...The latter being a bit rediculous, but for some reason...plausible...
The kicker for me that increases the stink factor on this is the reaction "1TallTXn" just got from John Burtt...
Either you cought him at a bad time, or John needs to work on his people skills...

Here's the whole run of what this guy and I emailed
he almost comes across as though he's offended that I contacted him. and I did so through the information request portion of his website!
I'm getting the feeling that we are missing a rather large part of the story...
something smells funny on this whole thing.I interviewed the guy whose home was searched and whose guns were
conficated.

"I'm getting the feeling that we are missing a rather large part of the story..."
I agree...
I am sure we are not questioning the truth about the story, yet...
But mine and some others interest is peaked...
All we want is a little more information if its obtainable, and not constrained by an ongoing investigation or other legal seal or something...

Maybe it is the cynic in me, but I do question if it happened at this point. What information we have is coming only from one source. We can't find any corroborating stories/reports. Sounds like an urban legend being used to scare people into doing the right thing. Just my opinion, but something fishy is going on here. The defensinve tone to Mr. Burtt's messages has me wondering what he's hiding.1TallTXn wrote:JI'm not questioning IF it happened, I'm questioning if there is a spin on the story

But he interviewed the man himself, he says in his e-mails with 1TallTXn. I smell a pile of used food emanating from a male bovine.Paladin wrote:We are not able to identify the person involved in the incident on Monday or give you any more info about the circumstances about what occurred at this time. Inability to identify the "victim" in this incident doesn't necessarily indicate that the incident did not occur. There are many reasons an individual in this sort of circumstance may wish their name witheld.barres wrote:But he interviewed the man himself, he says in his e-mails with 1TallTXn. That said, the nature of the incident is such that the news media would almost certainly have reported SOMETHING, even if it was just to crow about how a maniac with a fully automatic .50 caliber machine gun was taken down. The fact that there is nothing available suggests that either the situation in this country is far worse than we imagine (as in black helicopters & "Enemy of the State" stuff) or else the incident did not go down exactly as described.
