Seattle, WA?
Seattle, WA?
I have a job opportunity that I would absolutely love to take, in Seattle. I'm wondering if any of you know of any good sites like this for the Washington area, and if any of you have any good info about gun laws/chl style info for the area? (Or links to the same?)

Re: Seattle, WA?
I have friends who lived in the Seattle suburbs of Everett and Monroe. I have visited them several times and it is a beautiful part of Washington state. Washington has had "shall issue" concealed carry laws for many years.
The weather in Washington will allow more flexibility in your method of concealed carry. I am sure that you know about the long dark, cold, gray days in the winter. Watch out for the summers. I hear that for a couple weeks the temperatures actually get into the high 70s.
Good luck on your new job!

I don't know of any sites like this, offhand, but I"m sure you'll find some. You might want to check pnwguns.com for a start.
Regarding CCL (Concealed Carry License). WA is a shall issue state -- do the paperwork, get the fingerprints, have them run a background check, 30 days later you have a paper CCL in the mail. No training required, no photos, etc. You will find the state is very gun friendly, except parts of Seattle, which is infested with Californians that don't like to pay state income tax.

You might find this thread helpful:

It appears you could get your CPL as a nonresident (as they call it) even before you move but you have to apply in person (for example, on the same trip as a job interview). My superficial reading of this is that it takes very little time, can be done at any law enforcement agency in the state (for non-residents), and there is no test or course, just fingerprints, photo, and fees.
If am ever up that way, I may get one just because...

True story:
One of the "higher-ups" at Microsoft was complaining to me one day:
"It's 78 degrees, I'm burning up"
Me: It's 102 here today; stop complaining and turn on the air conditioner
"We don't have one"
Me: Didn't you just build yourself a big huge expensive house?"
"yes"
Me: Go to Sears, get a window unit.

(That person earned more in a month than many people's 5-year total salary)
Sorry to get off topic, but ...

Re: Seattle, WA?
I was wonderin' when the cost of living in the Seattle area would be mentioned:
If you're getting a MS salary that's one thing.
If you're going up there on a Texas salary...
Good luck and best wishes. BTW, take your slicker.

Re: Seattle, WA?
Well, since I've lived up here for a little over a year now, I think I can speak a bit about life here.
It's an interesting dichotomy. There are just as many rednecks (Texan-type folk) as there are tree huggin' hippy lib'rals. somehow, they haven't killed each other off!
I had heard that in Seattle there's all kinds of "Mayor Approved" off limits places, but recently, common sense prevailed and it was realized that State Law actually can't be preempted.
There are a number of ranges, indoor and out, so you oughtta be able to find a place to shoot. Most of the off-limits places are the same, but they don't have 30.06 signs up here, but any sign (no guns, gun buster) will suffice. course, all they can do is ask you to leave (if discovered in the first place).
I haven't seen 51% signs, haven't really looked, tbh, but it's any place that you have to be 21yo to get in is considered a bar. AND liquor stores (which are run by the state, basically like TABC are the only folks who can sell liquor).
Oh, and StarBucks started here, so as you can imagine, Coffee is HUGE here. you've never had real coffee till you've had coffee here.

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I like it! You know, you can actually buy it at CostCo, now! They have it in these bags that you just empty into a pot, heat to a boil, simmer for ten minutes, then chow down. gooooooooood stuff, too. man. mah mouth is a-waterin' now!
that's one of the biggest things I've noticed up here is the insanely good quality of seafood, literally, everywhere!
and yes, I have run in to a Captain from Deadliest Catch, too (Keith, from the Time Bandit).
no, I haven't been to Kurt Cobain's grave yet.

Re: Seattle, WA?
It was a culture shock to go bopping around the Olympic Peninsula and see small independent coffee shops in little towns selling lattes and other specialty drinks, but with their weather it makes a lot of sense.

Especially the drive-thru coffee shops. That was a unique thing for me.boba wrote:It was a culture shock to go bopping around the Olympic Peninsula and see small independent coffee shops in little towns selling lattes and other specialty drinks, but with their weather it makes a lot of sense.
