Informative Speech on CHL

Post by TxBlonde »

I am doing an informative speech Friday on CHL's it has to be 5 - 10 minutes long. Power Point. Outline. You know normal speech stuff.

I am nervous about this speech. I am in College. I have a lot of info on this already.

I am trying to make it befief and to the point about what I need to put in the speech.

It mainly is going to be about how to get it and the paperwork that has to be turned in.

I want to include the proper sign that has to be post if you carry to not be able to carry.

I think I am having information over load here.

Relax!

You are probably the ONLY one in the class that has a clue.
So who would possibly be able to correct you? Have fun!!

{Shows slide of a man in a mall, wearing a Tactical vest and fanny pack, looking as casual}

"Yeah uhhh, emm, if 3 people discover you are carrying a gun, and they all call in within 72 hours of each other, then you have to trade in your gun and carry an ugly gun. This is why so many people have been known to carry Glocks. So be careful, otherwise you too will have to carry Austrian Countertop material. Next Slide..."

{Shows slide of a Home Defense situation, with police investigating an apparently dead criminal crumpled awkwardly inside the threshold of main door of the house}

"After shooting a person in a defensive situation, the police will show up and score you on performance. You need to score higher than 70 out of a possible 100 (Scores for shot placement, shot difficulty, number of shots required. Penalized for bystander injury, collateral property damage, using an ugly gun, ie Glocks)
Those tallied at the end of the year with the most incidents, with the highest scores, will be honored at the National NRA convention and be presented with the coveted "Cocked & Locked" signature edition Ed Brown 1911. This is a real honor, and there have been several bogus shootings where the CHL carrier was disqualified for unauthorized shootings."

{Show slide of an aged Charleton Heston hoisting an antique rifled over his head in glee at the NRA convention}

Oh, I could have fun with this... ;-)

Thanks needed the laugh.

It is about how to get one.

Was lost about a topic. Asked the teacher for some ideas. She spotted my purse and was like why don't you do it on how to get a CHL and then told me she also has a CHL.

I was like well (shucks). I got spotted.

I think this is great. I think anyone who can stand up and help educate the uninformed should me commended for their efforts. There is so much bad information out there and we need as much help as we can get.

Well done.

I am trying.

I want to be a lawyer. So I figure I better learn how to Speech about issues not everyone agrees on.

I know some of these people in my class might not be eligiable for one. But I figure if they are informed may be they will not be so quick to judge people who legally carry.

My Purse. I carry a carry and conceal purse. If you know what you are looking at it is very clear what it is. It is one of the ROMA leather ones. My gun was in my truck like always. But I am not changing my purse out just to go into the college.

thanks for clearing that up!

Have you defined what position or point you wish to make in your speech yet?

I teach CHL every week and have quite a bit of stuff you could lean on...

Probably want to pick out a single point or two to cover - 3 to 5 minutes is not long when you have a lot to say!

Has to be 5 - 10 min

I was going with residency, but thinking of leaving that out.

Age requirements.
Criminal Record
Deleqents Payments and stuff like that.

But I want to show a copy of the proper sign.

The teacher is already making me an overhead of it so we can make the letters one inch tall by adjusting the projector.

As a cheap laugh you may want to mention the honorably discharged from armed forces law < 21 to get a chl but can't buy a handgun still, might get some chuckles out of it.

You may have all the information you need not, but feel free to call me at my office if you'd like to brainstorm about this a bit. I can PM my telephone number if you like.

A person who is under 21 cannot buy a handgun from a licensed dealer. If I understand the law correctly, he can buy one from a private party or posses one that was given to him (a legitimate gift or loan, not a straw purchase).

There's not much we can do about federal law from here.

TXBlonde: Good luck with your speech. You might want to include some "armed citizen" stories.

Quick outline

Post by Rex B »

Get an instructors outline, and excerpt the high points.

Why CHL?
Risks, examples
(image: rough characters in dark parking lot)
Statistics (anybody got a link?)
Who can get one?
Probably everyone in the room
(image: Business woman, soccer mom)
Who should not get one?
Anyone who is not sure they could use a weapon against another person. Anyone who cannot deal with the aftermath of a legal shooting.
They have to have a frank internal discussion on this.
What does it take
10 hr class. Be sure to go "all-inclusive"
$140 fee to the state
What are your responsibilities once licensed?
ID to LEO, be responsible gun owner, know the laws
Where can you carry? Not carry?
30.06, schools etc
Questions?

Suck some graphics from NRA and other websites

If there is any way you can reach these young adults, who don't even have a clue that they are sheeple, would be great. I would bet everyone of them think the police will always be there to protect them. They need to be told they are sheeple while they're young enough to not have their minds made up for them by the liberal media.

GOOD LUCK!
