Calendars HB 750

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Calendars HB 750

Post by Jasonw560 »

Just got off the phone with Rep. Lucio's office. The young man who took my call (jeez, i sound old now... :cryin ) told me that this bill reached their committee rather early, also that most of the calls and people who come by are for the bill. Some protesters have come by, but for the most part, it's been received favorably. His office hasn't gotten as many as others, since he didn't co-sponsor it.

He also said that the Calendar committee is rather busy with all the bills coming through. But he's confident that this one will reach the House floor.

He also encouraged me to keep calling in support of the bill. So, that's what I'm doing.

I just did finished calling them all. One or two said, "I'll pass it along" :grumble

Most were nice, got my contact info. and thanked me for the call.

The friendlier ones with whom I talked told me most of the visitors and callers were for the bill, and a few of the protesters came by. But most were for it. :anamatedbanana

One even asked me for why I was for it. And I told them I am a gun owner with a daughter going to college in about 4-5 years, my wife is in graduate school, and my wife and I live on the Mexican border. I want them all to be safe.

It's time to call and fax Calendars Committee Members and push HB750.

That's an excellent idea. I'll start one now, but I don't have time to pull together a list of those already posted. Perhaps other Members can do so.

Thanks for the idea,

Yeah it's time consuming, I'll start on Calendars right now, I posted Senate one for SB 354 elsewhere I can copy/post in it.

Just finished calling everyone on the calendar committee. Funny, the staffer for Rep. Eddie Rodriguez told me, a little stiffly, that he (the Rep) 'strongly opposes' the bill, but that she would let him know of my call. I've never before heard anyone say anything besides, 'Heck, yes, we're a co-author!!' or 'I'll pass that along...'

According to the TLO website (http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLook ... Bill=HB750" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) the latest status for HB 750 is "Reported favorably w/o amendment(s) 03/16/2011".

If the bill entered calendars, wouldn't it say "Committee report sent to Calendars"?

It should, but but sometimes the website is slow to update. It's in Calendar's now; we confirmed it yesterday while working other bills.

Just got a TLO alert that the Calendars Committee is meeting to set a calendar today upon adjournment of the House. Can anyone follow to see if it's on the internet feed, and if so, if they mention HB 750 on the calendar?

Calendars agenda for today
Unfortunately, it doesn't give any details...

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the Calendars meetings, unlike the other committee meetings, are not public; therefore, I doubt there will be a video feed.

That's why it can be so difficult to figure out which legislator is "tagging" a bill--the meetings are held in secret.

I'm confused by the rules on committee work... I thought the rules about open meetings, public records, etc prevented that sort of thing from happening? Yet apparently portions of the legislative process continue to be conducted behind closed doors :confused5
