Lon Morris College student arrested after loaded AK-47 found

Post by RPB »

I searched the forum, didn't find this posted yet even though it's Feb 2011
I searched "Lon Morris" perhaps I overlooked it, if a thread is already on it I may have even started it and forgot, sorry.

Thought provoking:

21 year old student from Austin

Loaded AK-47 in the guy's domicile/Dorm room where he lives/resides/residence/home (instead of the car.)

"Routine searches" of domiciles?

Random? No probable cause?

The random search for possible stolen items is scarey.

The admin has taken searches too far IMO.

I'm sure the student guidelines specify this possibility and that you are consenting by living in a dorm.

I continue to be amazed by the unwarranted and irrational fear of guns on campus.

:iagree: It is really sad that his whole future will be effected by this one incident. Dormitory rooms aren't very big or private. It makes me wonder if it was truly a "random search."

"someone" used to pull the fire alarm at my dorm in Uni all the time. usually happened at least once a month. All the residents would pile outside, cold and none too happy, and they would go through all the rooms, looking for "residents" who hadn't exited. I'm sure they looked for a few other things, as well. :grumble
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

Had the same thing happen to us as well. My dad jokes that back in the day, each Corps dorm at A&M had its own armory, where 03 springfields were kept for drill. heck, the students even had artillery pieces. (Wish I could find a picture).

Now, if I so much as kept a Ka-bar in the dorms, I would have been in serious trouble.

When I was in college I had four roommates, and we each had an M14 openly displayed on a wall rack in our room, as did everyone else in the school --though they did make me keep my personal weapons in the armory.
