CHL class... who to go to???

Post by Medic624 »

I'm gonna need to get my Tx CHL at some point but currently I'm still utilizing my WA CHL thanks to the "unilateral" agreement.

I'm in Pearland area and it seems there are MULTIPLE places in the area to go for the CHL class. Kinda like picking a decent mechanic ... I want to go to a reputable and knowledgeable instructor but wouldn't have an idea where to start.

Any help would be appreciated on who would be a stand up, decent and knowledgeable instructor.

Thanks in advance!! :tiphat:

You're in one of the "gold" zones in Pearland.

The man who has done as much for 2A legislation as anyone in the state of Texas, Charles L. Cotton, teaches occasional CHL classes out of Pearland Shooting Club. I think his seminar about Texas use-of-force laws should be on every CHL holder's to-do list...but that's a different subject. Drop him a PM to see if there are any classes coming up.

More than a few score of CHL holders will stand up and give you a glowing reference for Tom Estep. He's one of the genuine good guys, and is highly experienced. http://www.tomestepshooting.com/.

These are just two of my personal, biased recommendations. There are a bunch to choose from, of course.

:iagree: with both the posts above. Charles and Tom are both supreme instructors .

So, I would suggest finding which one has a class that works into your schedule and sign up. You can't go wrong with either one. :thumbs2:

:iagree: I have taken Charles Cotten's CHL class and it's excellent. I have heard great things about the other gentleman herein the forum as well.

Those guys are both excellent. If they do not fit your schedule, you can always consider Randy at http://www.chlnow.com/. He holds classes every day of the month in west Houston. Again welcome to Texas. After many years working in Washington State, I returned back to my Texas, so I can tell you, now that you are here, you are Texan now. There's no escape!
