debit card payment for CHL

Post by thatTexasLady »

Okay so I applied online on the 31st for our CHL. Paid with debit card. Charges showed up right away, everything was peachy. Last night, charges disappeared, money back in my bank. What in the world??? Girl at the bank said it was just a pre-auth and that they will charge it for real later. What!? If this is the case, when will that be? Has anyone had this happen? Thanks!

Nothing to worry about as long as the funds are there.

I've had this happen with other various purchases and the actual charge always eventually shows up.

I paid with a debit card as well they sure as heck took my 142 bucks and never looked back. Usually on a preauth the amount is over the actual transaction amount and then the actual charge should be right behind it. Ie when you check into a hotel. I know there are some Panhandle area financial institutions that have had some fraudulent charges lately so they maybe being overly cautious :thumbs2:

I was paying the Yacht Club with a online debt card the other day and they were having server problems. Twice it accepted the payment then refunded the money back to my account. Several days later I tried again and the payment went through then discovered the other payment had been withdrawn also so I ended up paying twice this month.

See that's what I am worried about, the money is back in the bank. It was for the exact amount and I have my receipt. I will of course leave that money in the bank so that when they do charge it, it is there, but this just seems weird. So do I need to start over, call someone?

DON'T START OVER!!!! That will just muddy the water. Give it two or three days if nothing shows up call the DPS 1-800-224-5744. You may have to call several times to get a person. I've found calling early in the day is best.

I would call the CHL division of the DPS and ask them about it. They normally take that money right away and hold it. I think someone may have accidentally applied a refund on yours. No matter, I would make sure that the processing department is square on the money issue as you don't want your CHL to be in jeopary over the money. https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administr ... ations.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Called DPS, they show it paid. Talked to the bank, they haven't declined anything but it's not showing up on their side either. She said sometimes it takes a minute to process said to just keep watching it. Yikes...I don't want it to be slowed down because of a computer glitch or something...

My bank (BBVA Compass) has done that from time to time. As long as DPS says they have been paid it should be OK. Believe me, if it isn't they will contact you!

It was a charge to 'see' if the account was real. Like when you buy something (gasoline is common) and only a charge of $1.00 shows up then two or three days later you get the real amount. Just leave the funds in the bank - it will be withdrawn later.

...or it could mean your application was denied. :leaving

Just kidding :mrgreen:
I'll bet the charge will magically appear in the next day or two. ;-)
