ShivWorks PUC, ECQC 1&2; OCT.28-30

Post by fm2 »

I am proud to again host ShivWorks and their excellent PUC and ECQC 1&2 class on October 28-30 at the Impactzone range.

The range is West of Houston,Texas; near Katy.

Friday evening will be the PUC (practical unarmed combat) class from 6-10 PM. Saturday & Sunday will be the ECQC (Extreme Close Quarters Concepts) 1 & 2 class from 9 til about 5 PM. This time you may take the PUC class as a stand alone class, for $100. The ECQC & PUC are $450, for 20 hrs. of instruction.

SouthNarc will be teaching these ground breaking classes, so don't miss a chance to train with this outstanding instructor. The concepts taught & practiced in these classes are very practical and directly applicable to CHL holders as well as military & law enforcement personnel.

Here are the class descriptions & instructor bio.

PUC class.

The ShivWorks Practical Unarmed Combat core concepts module is a 4
hour fundamental block of instruction that introduces the student to the
parameters and context of criminal assault. The student will learn how criminals
actually assault citizens in the real world and will initially focus on strategies and
tactics for challenging and preempting the potential assailant. The instruction will
then shift to immediate action procedures for spontaneous assault and how to
regain initiative with non-stylized basic tools.

ECQC 1-2 class.
The ShivWorks Extreme Close Quarter Concepts I & II (ECQC 1&2) course is a 20 hour block of instruction which focuses on a multi-disciplinary approach to
building functional, combative handgun skills at zero to five feet. The course is
designed to instill core concepts of seamless integration and provide the platform
for aggressive problem solving during a life or death struggle. A heavy emphasis
is placed upon commonality of body mechanics between skill sub-sets, which
means that all combative software is reinforcing. Once the student’s skill sets are
initially ingrained, the participant will be stress inoculated with force on force drills
utilizing man-marking cartridges and protective equipment.

INTRUCTOR BIO: “SouthNarc”

“SouthNarc” is the on-line pseudonym for the assistant commander of a multi-agency drug unit, in the southern United States. SouthNarc is also the commander of his agency’s SWAT team.

SouthNarc has been a full-time police officer since 1990 and has held line assignments in corrections, patrol, narcotics, investigations, and for the past seven years has been a narcotics group supervisor. He was also the primary defensive tactics instructor at the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute from 1992-1999 and has personally trained over two thousand police officers. SouthNarc has extensive operational experience in an undercover capacity which is reflected heavily in the Extreme Close Quarter Concepts coursework

SouthNarc has a twenty five year background in Philippine, Indonesian, and Japanese martial arts and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He has been conducting training in the private sector in the U.S. and abroad for the past 5 years.

I'm always interested in taking new courses. I might just try to get off work for this. Any reviews on the course?

Yes, there's some on this forum

on Todd Green's

and a detailed one here:

You can also ask Phil @ the Impactzone Range, his thoughts on the class.

I also have the ShivWorks AMIS class coming to Bastrop,TX. It's a FOF class for moving through buildings, that may have hostiles. There's also a good bit of low light work in the class.

I found a recent class review from a student, Tom Notarpole, in the NY class.

Tom's concluding paragraph:
This course went above and beyond my high expectations at every point throughout the weekend and I feel confident in saying that you will not find a better, more comprehensive and highly specialized curriculum any where today. These concepts were born and proven from violent street encounters experienced firsthand, and won by the instructor. Where else will you find that?

I highly recommend these courses. "SouthNarc" has developed an effective, pragmatic ECQB training syllabus.

If you can attend, it will teach you what really happens in conflict at real-world distances.

I am also working hard to get a vehicle class (VCAST) here in Texas next Spring. ShivWorks calls it VCAST, for Vehicle Combative and Shooting Tactics. The VCAST class is only offered about twice a year, and mostly on the East coast.
There is a PREREQUISITE of attending ECQC for VCAST. So if you are interested in VCAST, this is probably your best chance of getting the prerequisite taken care of.

I just recieved confirmation that we will host a VCAST class in Texas in 2012!!!! :hurry: I am very excited to have this course in Texas. I was not looking forward to traveling to NY to participate.

We spend much of our daily lives in and around cars and if you haven't thought about drawing your gun while seated in your car without muzzling yourself or passengers, clearing the seatbelt & steering wheel, opening the car door with gun in hand, it would be wise to take this class.
The class will also cover engaging targets from inside and around cars. There will also be a good bit of movement drills using cars as cover as well as exiting/entering the car.

Does Vcast still have a prerequisite for ECQC? I know SN had a non-prerequisite Vcast class lately. Just trying to plan out my training sched.

Do you have a link to a flyer or website?

Trying to get a govt organization to pay for training without a flyer is tough.

Yes, the pre-requisite for VCAST is ECQC. As it becomes more evident in ECQC, there is a need for safe, solid gun handling skills. We will be working drawstroke from inside the car in the drivers seat & passenger seat. I am sure we will be managing unknowns as well in the force on force evolutions.

Sorry for the late reply. There is a class schedule online: http://www.shivworks.com/tutorials.asp
There is also class outlines on the same page under course descriptions, about half way down.
If you need some other type of documentation to get approval, feel free to ask.
