Wal Mart Ammo Sales Times

Post by texanron »

I was told this morning by a sales associate at Wal Mart that they have a policy to NOT sell ammo after 10pm or before 8am. Has anyone else heard of this? I stopped by to pick up some ammo before heading to the range at about 7:30am. The sales clerk sold me what I needed anyway though so apparently this is not a hard line policy of theirs.

I could use some more .45ACP. I'll give it a try tomorrow morning on my way out and let everyone know what I find.

It's always been the policy at my local WM.

But they never have anyone working sporting goods during other hours, either. I've never needed something that I didn't have to find a sales clerk or have one paged.

Really? I thought that law got tossed years ago.

My Walmart is the same way. It is a staffing thing more than anything else. They don't have an associate with keys to the cabinet working late night hours.

Stopped by a WalMart this morning at about 0715. When I got to the sporting goods area there was already a person there and I thought it was going to be a breeze, but she didn't have her keys yet. It took about 10-15 minutes for her to find a manager to get the keys. Other than that there were not issues with their willingness to sell ammo at that time. I got a 100 round box of WWB 230 gr. Target ammo. It is smaller than the 100 round box of .40 ammo and when I opened it up I found out why. They are packed in there pretty tight with no rack to sit it. They are just lined up real tight, but otherwise loose.

Is this the one at 249 and Spring Cypress? I have had them tell me the same thing by one employee (who said they did it so men wouldn't come in and buy ammo late at night and kill their wives!) "rlol" I laughed in the women’s face so hard I started crying and so did my girlfriend who was with me. She said most spousal murders happen at night and that some husbands just decide to come up to wal mart and buy ammo to kill them. My girlfriend told the lady jokingly that we haven’t fought in over 3 months and that there was no reason for the employee to be worried about her! I am not joking this lady actually said that! Another time I went and got it at midnight but I had to wait for a manager to come with the keys. But yes, I have bought ammo at wal mart after 10pm before.

I used to work at the one on SW in Abilene; If this is their policy it must be pretty recent, because as of 2 years ago, ammo sales were conducted at all hours. Gun sales, not so much. Only thing w/the ammo is, if there's nobody actually working in sporting goods, or if it's after 10-11 PM, you've generally got to have it left at a register until you check out.

My experience with Walmart threads is as follows: No two stores are run the same. Bashing the entire company for your personal experiences doesn't make a particularly large amount of sense. For the most part, most Walmart threads amount to the same thing...
:deadhorse:

And no, I'm not defending the place. I'd sooner take minimum wage scrubbing floors at Whataburger with an old toothbrush than even consider applying there again.

Have never tried to buy ammo late, I know we bought shotgun shells one night about 10pm, along with a couple black hoodies and some beer. They did give us a funny look.

I've had an issue with this before as well. Only I was told "We can't sell ammo after 10pm due to state law". I shook my head and walked away. I usually don't go to wal-mart because I don't dig crowds, but my wife and I were there about 10:30pm and I found a box of bulk pack slugs which are pretty hard to find around here.

Meh.

It was the one located at Eldrige and 1960 in Houston. The one located at 249 and Spring Cypress didn't have what I was looking for.

IIRC, aren't the shotgun shells just out on the shelves and not in a locked cabinet at WalMart?
